I sent my phone to support, it was with them for a week and came back unfixed. I don't think that they did anything apart from reinstall the firmware which I had already done through the PC app, I told them that I had done so this, so it is extremely frustrating that this is all they did without testing the issue as they would have seen it was still not working.

There is anohter thread on here which suggests it is a sim card problem, I changed mine and it made no difference, so have sent it back to the service team. I think that it will get fixed (as I will just keep sending back until it is) but could take soem time for them to actually identify and fix the problem.

Phone is back with me after second repair and still not fixed. I called up the helpdesk and was told that the diagnostics identified it as a software problem, so they reinstalled the softward and sent back - twice! I really can't understand why they would do this witout doing it properly on the second repair and am now worries that this is going to drag on for even longer. Clearly Sony do not test the phone after fixing otherwise they would realised that the fault was not fixed - ridiculous.

I asked for it to be booked if for a thrid repair but the "computer said no" as my exisiting repair was still open so I've got to wait until the helpdesk can close it down.

I'm starting to really regret buying this phone now, I don't think I'd every buy a Sony phone again as the customer service and repairs deparment is shocking. It's a shame as I really do think it's a great phone but there seem to be so many problems with it on here that they don't listen to and are incapable of fixing.

I have Lilipop 5.1.1 on my Z3 compact and GPS not working.

I sent the phone to technical support. They did a SW update and the GPS still does not work.

I'm about to send it back.

This is very very frustrating as I intended to use the phone with GPS navigation for trecking.

There is a real issue of competence with the technical support to send back a phone without performing the technical diagnostic

Doesn't solve anything on my Z3 Compact. Still got the GPS issues. When using the GPS Test-app (Chartcross), multiple sattelites can be seen, but none will "lock". Lollipop really screwed this one up.

Interesting to read through these posts - I have had the exact same issue with my Xperia Z3 Compact. After re-installing the software and it not being fixed it's now with the Sony Support team. Besides the annoyance of no phone for 2 weeks, given the posts above I won't be suprised if it comes back un-fixed.

I will post back to let others know how it goes.

I Finally upgraded to 5.1 in the hope it would solve the problem but no, it has not.  still exactly the same issue. Will try sending it off.

Hello,

Is there fix for this problem? I'm on vacation and I was going mad when I found out I get no signal. I happily declined a GPS from the clerk at the rental car office desk and then had to maneuver myself through a country I don't know without having much of a clue where I am going. I had to return to the store and get additional GPS for 70 bucks for the period!

This makes me angry! Before I went onto my holidays I accepted an upgrade (like 2 days prior) and now have 5.1.1 - since then no GPS Position (though I see some and ONCE got a fixed position so the HW is not broken!). I am mad at myself for accepting firmware updates but one just expects no evil. Now I will have to maneuvre myself oldschool with a map through the mountains of a foreign country while hiking.

I draw some conclusions:

a. - I became way too dependent onto GPS

b. - Someone didn't do his/her job properly when adjusting Android 5.1.1.

But since I am NOT really aiming for a change of conclusion (a)... please! Does anyone have a (rather) quick solution (which hopefully doesn't need big loads of data since the WiFi in the backward place is slower than slow...I think it actually has a negative speed)? I'd be so happy if I could use my GPS here while in the Mountains (and yea, the only fix I got so far, as mentioned, was on the peak of a mountain... which is not much help. I lost the lock after about a minute again).

Thanks so much in advance to anyone who can help me out!

I had tried already to clear the location assist settings  and google location data (as suggested in another thread) but that didn't help.

This worked for me though.

I downloaded a 3ed party app from google play store (GPS TEST) and in the "3 dots" menu was an option to reset A-GPS settings,  after resetting the GPS worked again.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Brand new Xperia Z1 compact arrived yesterday, did its updates to 5.1.1 straight away, but GPS does not work.

Downloaded GPS test, it has satelittes in view but 0 in use (outdoors, open area, tried AGPS update etc, High Accuracy))

Tried test in Settings/About/Diagnostics/test/GPS 'test failed'

Also tried the Service menu from the phone dialer (*#*#77378423#*#*) and cleared it.

Performed factory reset (I note that 5.1.1 is still there, not original/as boxed software)

About to do the software repair via PC Companion, I don't think it will work, but will report back if it does.

Have already booked a warrenty return.
