Hi Arsenico
Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Have you tried clearing the data for Maps & LocationServices under Settings > Apps > All?
Good morning SophiaW,
thank you, please apologise me if I've don't make a presentation message of myself in the welcome area.
I've still done it!
Thank you for your answer, I've tried to do it but nothing changed.
The gps is still unavailble.
If I start the GPS test in the diagnostic menu: test failed
It's a rea ltrouble for me because I use my smartphone during my trips abroad where I can not use internet in order to fix my position.
Before lollipop upgrade everything work good!
In that case, I suggest running a Software Repair because the issue has occurred after an update.
Download the PC Companion software and install it on your PC.
NOTE: The software repair will delete all user data
To back up your phone using PC Companion:
1. Go to Support to install PC Companion on a Windows computer.
2. When installed, start PC Companion on the computer.
3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
4. Click Start under Backup & Restore.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Running the repair:
Please ensure your phone is powered off and not connected to the PC when you begin this process. You are not required to connect the phone until after step 10.
1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
2. Phone Software Update.
3. Start.
4. Repair Phone
5. Continue
6. Accept data removal
7. Next
8. Wait for prepare
9. Select Phone
10. Follow the connection steps
Hope this helps, let us know how it goes!
Hi SophiaW,
I'm just finished the recovery procedure suggested.
The smartphone is going to work well but........no internal gps
I have downloaded "GPS test" app. With this app there are 21 satellites in view (the antenna seems is doing its job) but no fix......
I am having the same issues after the Lollipop update, but my phone is a Xperia Z2. GPS works well when there's an internet connection, but when the phone is offline, GPS is useless. Sony diagnostics just confirmed this problem!
Hi JamesBond077,
thank you for your answer. I'm starting to understand that the problem is the upgrade. Surfing on the web I've found many costumers even of other brands having troubles after this upgrade (battery life diminution, sudden shut off, gps issues etc.).
At this point I don't know if it could better for me to send my device to the Service or to wait for a new release of the firmware with these troubles solved.
In order to have a short summary:
1) with OS kitekat the smartphone was gorgeous;
2) after the upgrade many features seems to be improved but gps stops to work.
Are you waiting for a new release too??....if it is the way to solve the issue...of course
Hi Arsenico,
I'm been doing some research on the web and found that in 5.1 lollipop Google fixes the GPS problems. So i'm going to wait for 5.1, but if this version doesn't fix the issues, than i'll probably going to end up installing a custom ROM on my phone. But for now i'm going to flash a new version of lollipop that was just released for the Z2 via flashtool, that mostly includes bug fixes. I'll report you about the experience.
I can confirm this error on the Z2. Problem occured after the update.
Good morning,
thank you to all for your answers.
I'm sure that the issue is a "gift" of the upgrade. In the web thre are many issues reported after this upgrade in a lot of smartphones. Some rumors on other web are saying that the cut off of internal gps is a way to save battery in the very energy hungry lollipop.......the navigation works only when an internet connection is available.....but if I haven't internet the navigation is out of order. This is the reason way an internal gps is always a best choice ( I like outdoor activities and I was an admin on a GPG italian forum becuase my love for garmin devices).
It's not the first time that an upgrade works worse in an "electronic device".
So let me say: Android (Google) wake up! Now you have to solve the issue in my 500 euro workstation!
As I said about myself, I'm a professional end-user of mobile phones, I don't like them for their aspect but for their reliability. They help me when I'm out of office to stay in touch with my colleagues, costumers and superiors and I don't like to think that my work is based on a cripped horse.
In the awareness that if gps does'nt work is not the end of my life ....but if the issue happened was another like "sim card is not recognized".................
Thank you again
