My album and WalkMan do not show any files.

Hi,

I have Sony xperia C.Since last few days i am having a problem that my Album and walkman application do not show any files. When launched they say 'There is no item in the collection'.Whereas file commander does recognise the files successfully and shows/plays them too.

I am using my old nokia mobile's 2GB memory card.

Also i am thinking to buy a 16GB memory card for my xperia C , please suggest me proper and compatible brand with the appropriate class.

Try to clear data for the media storage application. Its possible that its acting up in some way.

Settings > App's > All > Media storage > Clear data.

Also try to reboot the phone.

Any brand should work just fine, I suggest that you go for a class 4 or higher.

Thanks for the reply,

Can you please tell what all data will it clear?Do i need to take back ups for contact, images and all?

'Clear data' will not delete your photos or other files. It will just clear the saved user preferences and settings. You don't need to backup photos or contacts.

Clearing data of Media storage will delete playlists, etc though. You may have to reboot to make walkman detect the media files. Clearing of contacts happens if you clear data of 'Contacts storage' app.

And it is always a good idea to have a backup of all your contacts and other files.

I tried the idea suggested by you but it din't work ,even i visited a sony service centre and found that they had no idea about the rootcause of the problem. They just updated the software I guess.

And that did not solve the problem.

Now i am thinking there may be some issues with my old nokia memory card that i am currently using.Chances are that the way nokia OS saved the files on card is different to the way Android does, hence my mobile is not able to read the files properly. However file manager can still read the files successfully.

I am planning to buy a new 16GB memory card of Sandisk brand - Class 10.

Please suggest if this would be fine or not from compatibility/performance point of view.

You don't have to buy a new card. Transfer all media to PC from your sd card (u may use card reader), then insert sd card in your phone, go to settings>storage>Erase SD card. Now you can transfer anything to your card through usb data cable. This will change the file system to Android and the card should work properly now.

cause:

This is because of the removal of media storage Which you have done knowingly or unknowingly.

If u do this the cache memory for fetching and holding in the temp memory ll be erased.

Solution:

Restart the phone, wait for some minutes and check, now it ll fetch all the data from ext to phone mem.

I'm having the same problem.

I tried the clear app data - restart phone solution but it didn't work.

I decided to remove the SD card, transfer all the files and restore the phone to factory settings.

After all this, it still doesn't work... It only shows the photos in the DCIM/100ANDRO folder... I have images and music both to the internal memory and the SD card and the apps don't get content from neither.

I'm really furstrated and I've been trying to solve this for days...

* also when I connect the phone to my pc with the usb cable, both the internal storage and sd card folders show nothing. It doesn't say they're empty, it just doesn't show anything..
