I have two MW600 headsets and both of them do not power on. When plugged into the charger, the battery icon shows that both devices are fully charged. Resetting the devices by holding the phone and power button simultaneously does not work. I have also tried charging the devices overnight, but nothing has worked.
I previously had one of the devices hang while powered on and paired with a bluetooth phone, but that issue fixed itself when I let the battery drain on its own for a few days and recharged it.
Please advise if the devices need to be returned for replacement.
Hi
The MW600 is a good BT headset when it is working and sometimes like on this forum the unit fails to start and sony seem to be uninterested in helping out the consumer to solving this problem.
If you find that after a long period of non-use that the unit will not power up. Try the following methods (only works if the battery charging indicator is lighting up on the unit)
1) The soft reset -
- Push the power button and talk button at the same time - Should reset the unit.
2) The manual override -
- Plug the charger into the unit (for approx. 1 min)
- Whilst holding in the power button, take out the charger
- The unit will hopefully power up.
- If the unit powers up put it back on charge and leave for a 24hours. (The unit does not work whilst it is being charged!)
- Unplug charger and check your battery status, it should be full / almost full, if not time to get a new battery!
3) Hard reset
This will take a bit of patience and can be potentially dangerous so you have been warned!!!
Follow this link to youtube for a video on how to disassemble the MW600

Once the battery is out check the status of the battery using a multimeter to measure the voltage across the + and - terminal.
This should read around 3.7v +/- 0.3v. If the battery is reading below 2.9v then it will require a new one. Best sites for this are on Amazon (Type the "replacement battery for MW600" and suppliers should pop up!).
If your like me and cannot get hold of a battery in the UK. You can attempt to rejuvenate the battery. (Caveat - This is a potentially dangerous process so do not attempt if not confident in electronics).
1 - Find a multi charger / USB lead with split cables (might need to do this yourself) The requirements are that the source must be approx. 1 amp and approx. 5V.
2 - Take the + end of the lead and attach to the + on the battery. (Be especially careful here as the lip on the + terminal is sometimes linked to the earth which can cause a short!!- Very Bad Design by the battery company!!! )
3 - Take the - end of the lead and attach to the - end of the battery.
4 - Carefully plug the USB or charger into the mains and manually pulse the battery at 5V by pulling the USB in and out / switching the plug on and off a few seconds at a time. I did this approx. 15 times. If you have a multi charger and can switch to a higher voltage (I tried 15V), do this once for a few seconds.(This shocks the lithium ion battery into releasing the ions from - to +. It is quite dangerous as it is pushing more voltage and current through the battery, but as long as its not for a long period of time and not getting instantly hot, then it should be fine).
5 - Take off the battery and put back into the MW600 (Making sure you check your polarity).
6 - Plug the charger back into the MW600 and leave to charge for a hour or so.
7 - Unplug and switch on the unit as per normal, hopfully the unit will come alive.
8 - If not you may need to repeat the "manual override" procedure mentioned above to get the unit to work for the first time.
9 - then recharge for 24 hours (whilst switched on) before using it again.
10 - Reassemble the MW600!
If this does not work on your MW600 then it is likely that the battery is not the fault or the battery is beyond recovery. I suggest at this stage it is time to buy another bluetooth as it definetly won't be worth repairing!
Hope the above helps!
If this does please tick the kudos button if not please comment so I can try to find a work around
Good luck!!

I was using my MW600 on my home tonight. Everyone was fine. Then I went to put it away after getting into the house, I thought, "ha, don't forget to turn it off". But when I looked at it, the screen was already off. Which is weird, because only minutes ago I was using it. I held down power to ensure it turned off, but nothing happened. I tried holding down power to see if it'd turn back on, but no go.
Maybe the battery is dead, so I went to plug it into my computer to charge. Nothing, no charging icon at all.
I only bought this 6 weeks ago!
Any ideas? Obviously I am going to leave it to charge over night, but I have little hope as the screen is not on at all.
Well, what do you know, about 2 hours later, the screen came back on. I guess it was just really really dead! I am going to have to watch the battery life, I don't think I used it that much since last charging it. But I could be wrong, haven't gotten much sleep last few days. Anyway, problem solved. My MW600 is alive!
