Hello,
I seem to be having problems connecting my Xperia Play to my computer in MTP mode.
It has worked in the past but recently would not connect to PC Companion and when I checked Device Manager the phone was listed with an exclamation mark. I've tried uninstalling the device from Device Manager and allowed it to reinstall but now it fails to install the driver.
Any help would be appreciated 🙂
P.S. Not sure if it makes a differfence but I'm running Windows 7 64bit with Service Pack 1
hi,
i have the same problem.
when i connect phone i doesnt appear in the pc but it charges and when i'm trying to update software via pc companion computer sees it also.
any news so far?
No help so far on this issue but I have found a sort of work around for it.
I've managed to get the driver reinstalled after removing some apps from my phone (it was very low on internal storage - probably not related to this issue but you never know) and exiting the PC Companion software (right click on icon in notification area and exit)
Now it will only connect correctly to my PC if the PC Companion software isn't running. Once connected in MTP mode and Windows displays the Xperia Play as a drive I can launch PC Companion and use it to sync my phone. Unfortunately this makes it impossible to set it up to sync wirelessly as the software needs to be running before connecting the phone to pair it 😞
I've had the exact same problems, the only way I got it working before today was to close the pc companion software then re-connect the usb cable loads of times until it eventually worked, very annoying! today it seems better though (touch wood), It detects the phone right away even with the pc software open, see how long it lasts lol.
Seems like a bug to me!
P.S, I'm running Windows 7 32 Bit
I had the same problem. Turns out I had frozen the MTP App, to get the functionality back I unfroze it and rebooted
Hi All
The best way to get round this is to navigate to settings/storage/ and unmount your external card, your MTP driver should connect now. This was the same issue with my Galaxy S with a 16GB card inserted in. Note after you have finished your PC sync you will need to revisit the same settings and re-mount your card again. Rubbish way I know.

Until there is no answer from SE crew it means a bug. The only way to deal with it without sex with a brain is simply use a cardreader for sd
Thanks, that helped 🙂
Got the driver installed and the phone paired ready for a wireless connection, unfortunately the mtp ip driver won't install now 😞
Currently I can:
1) Unmount the SD card and sync the phone
2) Close PC Companion and connect the phone (with the SD mounted) and then launch PC Companion to access the SD card.
I'm sorry to hear guys.
I would suggest that you first start with reboot both your PC and phone and try again. You could also try with another USB cable to be sure.
Have you guys made any modifications to the software? Like root or unlocking it's boot loader?
Hello,
Restarting the phone and PC hasn't helped (I even have a fresh install of Windows 7 after my previous attempts at getting the MTP USB driver resulted in me not being able to use any USB device including mouse and keyboard) although I can now sync via USB (I have no idea why it started working).
Unfortunately, I still can't get it to connect via wireless - I follow the on screen instructions and connect the phone via USB when prompted but it fails to pair.
I haven't made any modifications to the software and I believe my phone has the latest update (I had issues installing the update through PC Companion which resulted in a temporarily bricked phone). I've also tried using my wifes USB cable (supplied with the Xperia Arc) but have the same problem.
Thanks.
