Hello,
I seem to be having problems connecting my Xperia Play to my computer in MTP mode.
It has worked in the past but recently would not connect to PC Companion and when I checked Device Manager the phone was listed with an exclamation mark. I've tried uninstalling the device from Device Manager and allowed it to reinstall but now it fails to install the driver.
Any help would be appreciated 🙂
P.S. Not sure if it makes a differfence but I'm running Windows 7 64bit with Service Pack 1
Mine was working fine until the pc software updated itself. Now it doesnt work at all. So it has to be a bug in the pc software.
Ok, this issue appears to be related to the SD card.
My 32GB card somehow got corrupted and after reformatting it everything worked fine, I could even pair the phone with my PC and use the wireless connection.
Now I've restored most of the files back to the card (its about half full) I'm back to having problems connecting to PC Companion
Hi
I bet your having issues because you have added music MP3 files onto the memory card (you could remove them to see if this theory is correct, but mind you some GPS software use MP3 for their voice directions so finding all of them might be a task), If so this could be the reason why you are now having issues again with connectivity. I had this on my Galaxy S phone which worked fine until I started loading MP3 files onto the card. I have been told that this is one of the reason why dismounting your external card enables connectivity of the MTP driver again, try it I could be wrong.

That is it! Right after formatting sd card works ok but after adding mp3, it starts working from time to time until total stop. Still using cardreader is the answer.
That makes sense, it actually stopped working again while I was transferring my music back after reformatting.
As people with non-SE phones have had the same issue I guess its an Android issue so we'll have to wait a while for a fix. For the time being, I'll have to settle for using the card reader 🙂
Its a known issue and limitation of the MTP driver, this had been discussed at great lenths over at the Galaxy S forum.
And have they found any decision yet?
reinstall the device on windows 7 guys
It will solve most of the problem
for other try to uninstall - disconnect - reconnect
Also this problem occur from time to time remember that the MTP mode take 30 sec to launch
i hope that the size of data in MTP APP process will not keep growing even more i'am already at 9 MB and don't know if i can clear them safely
It is clearly Android problem occuring only on Win7x64 systems on many devices. so we just need to wait for a fix but as far as I know people are waiting for it since the beginning 2010
No offense but i will save many ( i ) as² in 5 minutes let me check a little thing before posting
Sony ericsson failed on something quite big actually
