Kernel for ICS update on 2011 Xperia

Sony has hide my posting. Re-post here.

Hi All

I somehow guess Sony is lazy about the ICS software that have many issues. They simply use back all the drivers from GB firmware on ICS.

This can be seen from the kernel that ICS 4.0.4 having is OLD kernel 2.6.32.9.

To layman term, if Sony want to use new kernel like 3.0.15, they have to rewrite all the drivers to run in new kernel. This will take a lot of works for them.

That's why Sony choose the simple way to rollout ICS which causing so many issues.

I noticed Samsung and HTC their ICS is all using the new kernel 3.0.15 and it is running smooth on 512MB RAM phone like HTC One V.

This is how i feel and think. Sony please wake up and clarify.

Sure, I discovered that they didn't change their widgets, including the power switch etc, I couldnt get the 2012 xperia home screen. Even my WALKMAN player is the old one with bugs

I wouldn't say we're lazy.

A new kernel version is not necessarily the same as better and smoother software. It's all down to how you integrate the software with the kernel version and for now we have taken the decision to use the kernel we're using. Not because we're lazy but because we believe it provides the best experience with our software.

This does not mean we will stick with the same kernel for all eternity of course.

Unfortunately, but Xperia 2011 series is a mess with old kernel with stupid patches, without the most important RAM management and RIL patches to save battery, and other things. I'm waiting for Jelly Bean with the butter

OFF TOPIC:

@Marcus, can I install 4.1.B.0.479 FW from NEO L to my NEO V?

For the firmware confirmation u check on XDA.

And Yes ICS do have some issues, that are making users unhappy at the moment. I personally believe if Sony makes declaration about their future update plans for Xperia 2011 lines, it would be better for all. At least the users will know for what they should proceed and for what they should not.

Dear Markus,

Why you become so much angry?

As far as I know for Xperia 2011 line up Sony is lazy.

HTC phone with 650 MHz processor and 512 MB RAM are running smooth on ICS.

Even Sony it self is launching the miro and tipo with only 800 MHz process and 512 MB RAM running ICS, is this phones are also leggy? Never dear if at buy any phones are leggy then on one will bring this phones.

How this is possible with Xperia 2012 line up and not Xperia 2011 line up. I brought Xpria Pro only and only because of physical keyboard and future proof (ICS update). I am a big fan of SONY from decade but I am quit disappointed with Sony is behaving!

Convey this message to developers please.

I agree 100% with you lohdavid.

I think Sony just wants to make more money as there making a loss in the mobile business, that's why they have put out shocking phones with lower specs than the 2011 lineup, why do you think the ICS runs so smoothly on lower spec hardware then your own 2011 phone, there's no other word to use than lazy and shocking, it's misleading, and droping support before it ends

About the Kernel! It's always best to use the most up to date software there is, that's why they call it a update Markus -_-!

How can the lower end 2012 phones, with lower processing power run the new Kernel, but are 2011 phones with higher processing power can't, I know a bit about Linux, and a new Kernel in most cases, improves things, is lohdavid right, your lazy, prove us all wrong and update the phones with the new Kernel, I want to see actions, now, today,
