headphones for sony xperia go

i am a heavy music listener and for long i had resisted the temptation to buy an android phone. but when i saw sony ads saying the xperia was good for music, i went ahead and bought xperia go.

then then next day i went to an apple shop and bought sennheiser mm70ip (headphones plus mic for phone access) for 150 dollars in singapore.

but to my horror, these phones didn't work on the xperia go. i tried headphones on other mp3 players and my computer and they worked fine.

so i took the headphones back to the shop and told them it was not working on my phone (no fault of theirs really).

but they were very considerate and helpful and tried to get me another set. we tried various headphones (including mic) by multiple brands - sennheiser, klipsch, harmon kardon, denon etc. none of the headphones (with mic) worked on xperia go. but most headphones without a mic work on the xperia go. but with the mike we could only find a headphone set by 'beats by dr dre' working on the xperia go.

after much reluctance the shop refunded me my money (thank the stars!).

there are some 'universal' headphones by sennheiser which apparently are not specially for iphones but for all smartphones. will try to check them out and see if they work with the xperia go.

the default headphones which came with the xperia go are nothing much. i was looking for a qualitative upgrade over my old sennheisers which i used with my old ipod. but with all these compatibility issues i am wondering if i made a mistake buying the xperia go.

Xperia go follows the CTIA standard (same as iPhone) when it comes to headsets. You can however use any headphones with Xperia go since they haven't got any mic. I suggest that you check the standard of the headset you're planning to buy. I would also recommend to avoid the ones having dedicated music controllers since they tend to run on another voltage which is not supported by your phone.

are you saying that the xperia go doesn't have a mic?

or that i can use a headphones without a mic? if so, how would i answer calls without unplugging the headphones?

appreciate the clarification.

i would also appreciate it if you could suggest some (non-sony) headphones (brand/model) with a built in mic (to answer calls) that i can use with the xperia go.

Hey man, my JBL XX and my Sound Magic PL-11 work just fine. The other day my friend plugged in his px 80, no probs with them either. Thinking_Face

Headphones doesn't have a mic. Headsets do.

So to clarify, you can use any headphones with Xperia go.

But to be able to make calls using headset you need to make sure that the headset follow the CTIA standard.

ok. can you suggest some headsets which follow the CITA?

because i don't think such specs are listed on the product jackets.

My Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V headset is not working with Sony Xperia Go. Is this becuase Xperia Go supports CTIA stds? If so please suggest some headset to buy from sony store (links or Model # is sufficient). Thanks.

I have just learned you can insert the non-compliant headphones whilst pressing/holding up or down (+/-) on the volume rocker button.
