Headphone port flap problem

Hi there,

I was one of the lucky ones to received their Sony Xperia Tablet Z 16GB WiFi on 22 May 2013. I preordered it from sony.co.uk sometime in April.

I have an issue with the flap which covers the headphone port. I have only used the headphone port once and ever since opening it, I have noticed that I have not been able to shut it completely, unlike the other port flaps - the charger (which I have opened and closed numerous times) and micro sd ports which shuts completely and firmly. Whenever I close the flap, it will start to slowly open itself and leave a gap. As far as I am aware of, the ports need to be completely closed to prevent water breach and my issue above would cause problems then if I decide to submerge it.

I have tried contacting Sony UK and Sony Mobile who are both happy to pass me around and not wanting to take responsibility or even help me resolve this issue. As this tablet is only a few weeks old, I should be covered by your returns policy. However I do like the tablet and would like to resolve this issue by either getting it fixed or swapping with a new tablet which does not have this defect.

Could a Sony rep please get in touch with me and point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Imran

Thanks Bags, I have actually managed to get it to stay shut (for now) but it took me sliding my finger across it several times and pushing down with quite a bit of force to get it to seal properly. I don't need to do this with the over flaps but I'm not sure that would really warrant a replacement. Thanks for the info though and if I'm still getting a problem with give them a call.

Hi there,

just found this thread while I was googleing for that issue. I have an Xperia Z Tablet, too, and I have this issue with the USB-Flap. Since the first time I opened it, it won't close any more. I also own an Xperia Z Smartphone, no problem there. How can I get rid off that problem so that the USB-flaps closes again? I'm from Germany. I'd appreciate an answer from Sony.

Thanx in advance

Well, if they won't work as they should I would advice you to send in the tablet to a service center so they can take a look at it.

If you bought it within 30 days, generally you can return the item and get it replaced. That is what I did with mine. I think it was a defect set. The replacement I got is perfect. Not had an issue until today. It's nearly a month and a half now.

I thought it had gurantee for a year or so. Just butting in I dont have problem with headphone port cover but usb port cover. seems its some how ruptured looks like its made up of cheap plastic/rubber. I mean not every one has dock to charge you have to open and close the usb cover. I do have ordered a dock but seems its too late for that.

Very same problem here in Belgium : headphone flap is slowly popping out from its closed position.

I would largely prefer a fix than a replacement, given the number of hours of customisation brought to my tablet (apps, data,...). Does the Sony PC companion backup and restore feature really allows a seamless hardware replacement? (data, free and paid apps, android settings and apps settings and data ?)

I appear to have a similar problem with the USB port. The tablet is less than a year old and has been treated very well!  I discovered this morning that the USB charging port cover would not close properly and keeps popping back out of its socket, despite being pushed down.  I can see no reason why it shouldn't stay in place and cannot make it stay in place no matter what I do.

Any input or suggestions would be welcome - I would really prefer not to have to relinquish the tablet to the Service Centre for any length of time!! And whilst I don't plan on letting the tablet near water anytime soon this is a bit of a pain.

I have tried a number of times to upload a photo but cannot get the system to upload - not sure what I am doing wrong, but can't get the "insert image" to insert the image!
