Headphone port flap problem

Hi there,

I was one of the lucky ones to received their Sony Xperia Tablet Z 16GB WiFi on 22 May 2013. I preordered it from sony.co.uk sometime in April.

I have an issue with the flap which covers the headphone port. I have only used the headphone port once and ever since opening it, I have noticed that I have not been able to shut it completely, unlike the other port flaps - the charger (which I have opened and closed numerous times) and micro sd ports which shuts completely and firmly. Whenever I close the flap, it will start to slowly open itself and leave a gap. As far as I am aware of, the ports need to be completely closed to prevent water breach and my issue above would cause problems then if I decide to submerge it.

I have tried contacting Sony UK and Sony Mobile who are both happy to pass me around and not wanting to take responsibility or even help me resolve this issue. As this tablet is only a few weeks old, I should be covered by your returns policy. However I do like the tablet and would like to resolve this issue by either getting it fixed or swapping with a new tablet which does not have this defect.

Could a Sony rep please get in touch with me and point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Imran

Hi there,

It does indeed seem like something might be wrong with the flap/cover here. Could you please send me a PM with your contact information and I'll pass it forward to my colleagues in the UK so they can contact you to sort this out.

Hi,

I am also having the exact same problem as Bags. The headphone port cover seems to slightly raise on the right side (as you can see in the photos) after closing. It stays closed for about 5-10 minutes and slowly raises - I'm pretty sure this will make it lose its dust and waterproof functionality. The charger and microsd flaps stay shut and secure so I'm not sure if there's an issue with the headphone flap? Any advice would be appreciated - the tablet is only 1 week old. Thanks.

Yup that's the same exact thing. I thought I was the only one who had this issue as I couldn't find anything on this anywhere online.

I am still waiting for Sony to contact me to arrange a fix. Samuel could you please check with your colleague on the status of this? Would be great if they can get in touch with me as soon as possible.

Thanks.

Last info I got was that they were going to contact you later today or tomorrow. Hopefully you'll receive a call later today.

Sam,

Is there someone I need to contact regarding the same problem? I'm from the UK.

Thanks.

Did you send your tablet to service as well?

No mine hasn't gone to service. It's only a week old and just used my headphones at the weekend and noticed this problem. Don't really want to return it and be without it for a few weeks to fix this. Thanks.

Ste87, are you looking to get it replaced or return? I have just spoken to a guy from Sony Help Desk UK on the following number 0844 846 6555 or 0207 365 2413 (can't remember which) and have agreed to replace my tablet. The couriers will be picking it up tomorrow/day after and once returned to their warehouse they will send a new one to me.

According to him, there is about 100 tablets in stock.
