I found the ultimate solution against any GPS or Android issues. I just gave my Xperia Arc a free one way trip to the trash this morning. Didn't even bother my self trying to sale it!
This morning it started to bug while I was at the gym listening music during my workout. NOT even one week without problems with Android phone. Actually when I bough my Xperia (brand new) I had to return it the very next day he had already a function problem. Under warranty they gave my a new one, so that was the second one within 24h!.
I have an experience of 2 years with Iphone 3S, it has been stolen in my car, and in order to save money I bough this Xperia and I used it for one year going through plenty of little issues the kind of issues I NEVER EVER had with Iphone I actually never had only one single issue with my Iphone 3S in 2 years.
I'm not an Iphone or APPLE products fanatic, either with Android, but based on my experience it's obvious that Android phones really sucks. But I do understand that not everyone can afford the price of an Iphone which I agree it's a little bit exaggerated but it does the job 110% and NO issues whats however.
For example ma colleague with iPhone is not so happy than you was
But I agree - Apple makes stable and nice devices for people - from my point of view it's very good idea, and very good brand. I believe that iPhone's OS is working without issues.
But - Android is used on quantum of different device manufacturers. Pure naked Android from Google is not bad, I believe it's also working on 110%. But after that each brand has to reconfigure Android to their HW, their own look, to add there some custom parts and so on. And the result is....as it is. They have no time to test everything on 100% becasue time is running.
Maybe we can check iPhone forum for their issues...
Hi there!
well I checked both forums, Iphone and Android dedicated. With Android most of the postes are about issues.
But I believe that getting back an Iphone it's a good move.
I'm planning to buy a PC tablet as well, I checked many Android tablets the last few days, but for now I'm already sure I will take an Ipad.
Is it possible to stay on-topic please? Take the iPhone/iPad discussion elsewhere.
As for me, I've been running GPS Test continuously now. It has been more than two hours and I never dive below "15 satellites in view". It just never fixes. I'm on the ICS update, firmware version: 6.1.1.B.1.10.
I've tried everything. I've reset the phone, I've factory-reset the phone. I've rooted it, I've unrooted it. I cleared and updated the a-GPS data. Everything I can think of that doesn't involve flashing.
I'd highly appreciate it if Oskar, the GPS-guy, and his team would actually acknowledge the problem and make it a priority item to start working on.
I get the impression this is not the case.
Have you tried to download gps.conf directly for your country? Maybe it could help...
I did, I changed the server settings to be.pool.ntp.org (since I live in Belgium), I also tried setting it to a more general 'europe.pool.ntp.org' to no avail. My server is supl.google.com and the port is 7276.
I tried changing it to supl.sonyericsson.com and the port to 7275 but I saw no noticeable difference. Also, I read on XDA that supl.sonyericsson.com might be slower then the Google server.
I even get as much as 20 satellites in view while inside (lol, how is that even possible) but it never fixes. Another post on the XDA forums suggested that we suffer from a bug which interprets the GPS data as negative values and therefore, disrupts any attempts to get a fix.
Hmmmm. And does it work OK in previous Android? You know....to eliminate HW failure...
I actually never tested it. I bought the phone while it had 2.3.7 Gingerbread installed, since the ICS update was out at the moment of purchase I immediately upgraded.
The fact that I can find more than 15 satellites indoors but cannot fix might rule out the H/W failures. I'd rather blame it on faulty config files or localisation settings.
EDIT: I reset the gps.conf to use the Google servers and put it to the Belgian server. I sometimes manage to get a fix, although it takes long. One thing to note, the fixes are accurate. I'm talking a radius of 5 to 10 meters.
I think that I will wait just until the next week, because Sony insists to wait for the ICS update. If it doesn't arrive, I think I will go to the technician with all these forum threads to see if he really can do something more about these problems ... at least to make a more important claim to Sony.
