Data traffic gets disabled when i turn off/lock my display screen

This is my second post about the same problem,unfortunately the first suggestion didnt work for me.In my phone settings>>display>>screen time out option i had kept the screen turn off time at 30 seconds.In Xperia U here is nothing called as standyby mode as was suggested earlier.The data traffic gets disabeled even if i increase the screen timeout time to 10 minutes but that way the fone's display remains on and i have to manually lock my fone to timeout my screen which causes the same disconnection problem  as soon as i lock my phone display.If i dont lock my display then my phone battery is obviously goin to drain out quickly.However my data traffic is actually connected but gets disabled due to d problem i described but works fine if i use a Tethering mode on my fone.i m really in a mess and dont know how to fix this...hope to see ur response soon.

untick the extended standby mode in settings -> power management....it's useful when u're not using the phone (when u're sleeping) but otherwise just check that it is not ticked...!!!

Thanks for the response,actually earlier i was using gingerbread thats why i wasnta ble to find the standby mode as there was none,ever since i upgraded to ICS the problem seems to have been resolved to large extent even though not entirely.It still disables my data traffic some times and firstly i would like to know if the extended standby mode is checked will i still get notifications about watsapp msgs and other notifications like mail and sms and secondly,what will happen if i dont check it but due to the connection problem i have which causes it to get disabled.Will i still get notifications in this case.

no you won't get any notifications when it is ticked bcoz it disables data connection after the screen is locked for a few minutes....due to connection problem also u won't get any notification....it requires active internet connection.
