cannot make a phone call

when i press the phone button, it said "the application Contacts has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". and it only allows me to choose "force close". i restarted the phone but it is still like this. how can i fix it? thanks!

Try settings-apps-all-phone,force stop and clear data.Restart the device.

I also have this problem!! I have to uninstall my whatsapp and logout my facebook to get back the most basic calling function of the phone. I saw that other models of sony phones are also having the same problem? What's wrong?

Some of them suggest removing all google apps, but they are all important apps.... any official solution?

try to reboot on safe mode to see if any third party apps cause the problem...keep us updated

Sony Mobile Communications would like to provide an update in response to reports around crashes of the Contacts application that some users may be experiencing on devices running Android version 2.3 and Xperia J, Xperia L devices running on Android 4.1.

We have identified this issue on some units of these models, and the source of issue resides in a Google Play Services update (4.4.49). Google has been contacted about this and have confirmed a fix for Google Play Services version 4.4.50 or higher. In the mean time users can either remove any accounts that depend on Google Play Services like, Facebook, Viber, Skype etc. Users can also choose to uninstall the latest Google Play Services update but then losing access to some Google applications.
