Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.
Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.
Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.
In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.
SONY -- please look into this -- is this my handset or systemic?
Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.
For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

Yeah I agree that it has being a long time, lets be objective, Sony just released 4.0.4 for the Xperia S and that took many months before it's released, there are some bugs that need to be addressed but if you think about it, this issue it's not for all Xperia S, just like the yellow tint issue, perhaps a future update will resolve this issue to those users (focusing issues), just like some users can't connect to wifi/hotspots, or some users that can't stay connected to their carrier/network's 3G/H
still no reply from sony... for the meantime I am using manual settings whenever I take pictures. So far I am happy with it although there are still bad shots here and there and most of all this is a big inconvenience for me and for everybody. I really hope this get fixed real soon
Geez Uli, are you really that blind or just a Sony employee, the problem is as obvious as the sun in the sky on a sunny day... the XS really battles at night with focussing etc, and Sony should just bring out a fix!! simple, instead of downplaying EVERY single comment that is critical of the XS's low light/focussing performance!
WE are talking about low light flash photography!!!!! gsmarena photo quality tests are done without flash... and you have the gall to say we are getting it wrong! you can try and cloud the issue any way you want but there are too many of us here on the site with the SAME issues.
While this issues remains, I'm using Neat Image plus PhotoScape to adjust noise and brightness/contrast. Why Sony don't improve the camera software to do the same thing?
@Jostian, that's consider a personal attack and it is against this Forum Rules, keep them in mind for future posts
@Jostian again, if you read my post you can see that I'd said that that's an example how to compare cameras, not that that specific link it is comparing with flash, yet again I will suggest that you check the forum guidelines
LOL ;; I AM DEAD OF LAUGHTS uliwooly reading your coments and the Sony's customers ..oops !. :smileyconfused:(. i want say) Sony's BETA TESTERS really you make me dead of laughts continu like this and they will really very glad of Sony Lol .. regards
I don't understand/get the joke if there's one, perhaps you can rephrase your post so we can all understand it. I hope it's not either a personal attack or insult. Anyway as you can see on other posts from Sony Moderators, it has being passed to the developers.
There isn't a need to personal attack or be rude to other users as the whole idea of this forum is to help each other out and for the Sony Moderators to pass any bugs to the developers.
He is also not respecting by treating us an idiots with suggestions such as: Have you tried Manual settings? When everybody knows, including him that the phone struggles with low light.
