Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

i upgraded from a truely woeful sony satio, and was really looking forward to this phone. i don't really use much of the features, my main use is the camera.
two phones in a row that have been truely shocking from sony. i really don't think they want repeat custom, i have only ever had sonys, but that will definately change next upgrade.
why bill it as a camera phone when the previous phones camera was superior in every way ?
the problem with the satio was everything except its exceptional camera (that's not an wild claim)

the new phone, autofocus - rubbish, picture quality - rubbish, panorama disgrace, an utter disgrace no other word for it.

satio - 2 pic merge or 3 pic merge perfect for landscapes,

experia S - continuos blend - panned too fast, panned too slow, grey area in photo, panned too slow, and the quality terrible..
how can a 2 year newer camera phone be so inferior to the quality and feature of the outgoing model ??
i was able to sell some of my landscape photos with my satio, the experia i can't even get it to focus in a room of people...

whoever passed this camera as fit for use should be taken outside and battered with a trades description manual until they agree to do their job properly. roll on upgrade, goodbye sony..

Actually, by manually configuring the phone, you can get good photos even at night!

Remember to use high ISO when poor light. Only set Auto in daylight

Does any one Check camera in Service Menu (*#*#7378423#*#*) check it, It works fine in there,

But in Normal mode, we have severe AF problem. Sony Must fix this problem before JB release.

Really bad camera quality. I was choosing Sony becaue of the faith in its product. The smartphone totally destroy its branding. I have had iphone and samsung galaxy,  Xperia S just not comparable  with them on camera. and connectivity.

Camera of this smart phone is not bad. The only thing that is lacking sharpness in photos. Stabilizer field slowly adjusted to focus.

The trick with this phone is to manually configure camera according to the conditions.

For example, a higher ISO when in poor light.

It can take good photos at night, but you have to configure it.
