Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.
Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.
Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.
In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.
SONY -- please look into this -- is this my handset or systemic?
Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.
For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

They are at the same distance, the first one looks closer bcus it's portrait. 2nd: there was flash on both. The background light there for both pictures (I didnt switched it off for the BB pic) but only affects the Xperia S camera.
WOULD YOU STOP TRYING TO HIDE THE ISSUE WITH THE CAMERA OF THIS PHONE.
THE PROBLEM EXISTS. THAT'S A PERFECT EXAMPLE BESIDES THAT ONE IS PORTRAIT AND THE OTHER IN LANDSCAPE, ANYWAY THAT SHOUL NOT MAKE THE BIG DIFERENCE THAT YOU CAN SEE ON THOSE EXAMPLES!!!!!
IF YOU DONT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH YOURS, THEN GOOD FOR YOU. BUT DONT SAY THAT THERE'S NOT A PROBLEM WITH MANY XPERIA S PHONES INCLUDING MINE!!!
Undoubtedly the focus of the Sony Xperia S is the worst of all smartphones. Even an iPhone 3G iOS, its autofocus is far better. It's funny that there are fanboys who continue to defend Sony so it is impossible to take a picture with this apparail in low light in the day, I do not even speak for night photography.
uliwooly please stop posting, as you don't have sense of the ridiculous, I give you the advice.
The unfocus, blurry and grainy images from Xperia S is indefensible...
Thank God i don't work for SOny or else i would have had to defend xperia S for its photography skills, eventhough it totally sucks on it! Cummon SOny its worth the update, go for it. This has become like a never ending thread with hundreds adn thousands of complaints on one issue with only one person defending and totally satisfied about the problem. Get a life!
I agree to all Xperia S user's comment.. Previously i was using N8, since i need Android phone i chose Xperia S (reason was 12 MP camera)... but after purchasing i see that i made a wrong choice, Until sony fixes Camera issue, down the line Sony will loose its name in the market sure..
Sony, Please react faster!!
This is how to PROPERLY compare phones

as you can see, the phones are set on the same place, with the same light, etc.

Thats bs, the proper way to compare is in real life, where Xperia S is a total fail even in front of a Blackberry.
The guidelines doesn't say nothing about "screaming"!
You are the only one defending Sony, maybe you get paid OR just a fanboy!
STOP TRYING TO HIDE THE PROBLEMS!
I have TO create new threads since they IGNORE THIS ONE!

A thread of this magnitude (visits and posts) it's not forgotten, it'll be great if a Sony moderator post here, but if he/she doesn't have any update from developers what will be the point?
