Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.
Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.
Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.
In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.
SONY -- please look into this -- is this my handset or systemic?
Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.
For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

This is an incredibly slow app, and close ups are still very blurry.
you only took that one picture? or they all came like that? for me it worked better than the defaul cam app from sony, not perfect but better focus, for me!
I think that from the 100 pictures, 10 are out of focus which is very acceptable. Mostly it's human error, because you pick the wrong spot to focus on.
Please don't talk too much about pictures, cause you can fix them with a 2nd or 3th attempt and that's it, the main problem here is with the videos that you take, the focusing is the real problem, unexpectedly while you're filming, it looses the focus and it will take about 5 to 8 secs (or even more) to autofocus again (you can watch my last posted video). that is not right.
I had an N8 before the SXS, and I never had this camera problem. I changed it because the symbian software has been left aside, and it will be death soon.
It will be nice to hear "something" about "someone" at SONY, isn't it?
I agree
Silacho,
I install LG CAMERA from android market at google-play and it focuses quickly compared to stock app when you record video.
Sony, please do something~
I have not really a focus issue yet but I noticed focusing is a bit slow and continiously hunting. It's not very stable indeed. Must be software issue.
Did some low light testing with Iphone yesterday and I shot five pictures in a row and every picture was the same. With Xperia there can be some differences between the pictures. Sadly to admit but pictures from Iphone have less noise and are a little bit sharper. Xperias pictures weren't bad either.
Me too!
SXS camera is just a toy compare to N8

I have this problem too! Sony needs to really fix this!
