Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

I use my camera phone to do my hobby of munzeeing, This involves scanning QR codes. Unfortunately the camera on the Xperia s won't recognise the codes because it can't focus! If I had of known this before I bought the phone I would have stuck with my HTC. It is a software issue as if use an alternative QR scanner the camera will focus. Come on Sony sort out a software update please!

come on dude, do you call an answer to the Markus' reply 80 DAYS AGO. All he said was that there was a firmware update coming that Maybe will fix it or maybe not ,you know it did not fixed it! it's been so long that the person who started this thread, Batman1056, got his xperia s replaced 3 times and then sold it. You know better than me that they're ignoring us.

So you are saying that the latest update which was released not to long ago which had to go through approvals before it was released was supposed to address an issue that was perhaps not known before this update was finished and submitted to approval?

use your common sense, ICS it's about to be released in few more days

I think that update should have fixed the problem, because the problem has been there since the beginning of the release, this thread is 3 months old. how is it possible that they didnt knew about the problem before they rolled out the update? That's why im here writing, because it doesnt make sense.

Indeed the camera is too bad while taking photo at night, almost photos have red eyes and poor focusing problem!!!!!:smileyangry:

Anybody can tell me that how to take a good photo at night (at least acceptable) using Xperia S?

It's very dissapointed no matter how I set the camera mode.

Is the release of ICS help in this problem?

Not one camphone takes good pictures with low light, even compact camera's have trouble with it. I think people's expectations are too high. At least that's my opinion. For good low light pictures buy dslr.

I saw some Iphone 4 pictures last week, taken in low light, and was shocked about the terrible quality of it.

Not perfect, but they can take good pictures. I used to take good pictures in low light when I had Arc, they were not perfect but they were good enough. But on Xperia S they're just unacceptable. so don't say that no camphone takes good pictures in low light. what's the Exmor Sensor for then???
