Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.
Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.
Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.
In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.
SONY -- please look into this -- is this my handset or systemic?
Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.
For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.
THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

do you press it all the way or do you press it half way? then after it focus all the way (it shouldn't take long to focus)
half way untill it focus and then all the way. i did see it when it focus, it is a little bit better this way. just gotta be careful not to shake when going all the way.
I agree to this problem.
It's not a software problem otherwise everyone should have this problem. It should be the same or better quality as the Arc. I think it's a hardware fault.
I make beautiful pictures with it when light is good. In low light there's too much noise. Most of the time I use my dslr for taking pictures but I'm not always carrying a dslr with me.
it seams that the 5MP camera that with digitall zoom become 12MP size
very noisy and unsharp
not good!!
sony whyyyyyyyyyyyy
Check these ones out and let me know what you think of them.
this one was the 1st,2nd and 3rd attempts with AutoScene on auto flash, indoor at night:
then with the same settings this was the 4th attempt:......
this next one was the 1st and 2nd attempt with the AutoScene OFF:
then at the 3rd attempt(same settigns) it came out a little better, not very good or how it's supposed to be:
Please do something about it, or if anything can't be donde at least let us know so that we stop hoping it will get fixed... sorry for any error on my english
I just bought Xperia S two days back and today tried to click some photographs. And it was so embrassing when nothing came out good.
1. Difficult to focus,
2. there is no difference even when i change the scene mode.
3. There is a lot of noise in the pictures.Either the pics were too bright or very dull.
4. And when i enlarged the pics the pixels were breaking.
I had a samsung phone before with just 5mp camera and the pics were way better that what i am getting with 12mp. what is the use with the greater pixel rate when the camera itself is not good enough.
SONY, please come up with some solution to these problems.
Really really disappointed!!
One more disappointed costumer with Xperia S, there is a lot of us. And we are not getting answers from SONY, they seem not to care.
Sony Tech Team need to look into holding the low shutter speed a little longer. as you will notice when you see the image on screen even in low light its crystal clear and when you take a photo is dark and lost the clearness.
here is what happens camera drops the shutter speed to allow more light but when it actully takes the picture the shutter speed is increased to compansate for hand shake. if you are a DSLR user you will know what i mean .,...but I think if the camera takes a little longer to focus i wont have mind as long as it actually took a good quality photo i mean my K800i beats this hands down.
Yeah, i know what you mean, on the screen looks good, but when the picture is taken it doesn't. i think you're on that about the shutter speed, that might the cause of the lack of clearness on the pictures. Im hoping they fix it on the ICS update.
