Bluethooth vs Wifi issue

Hi, can anybody confirm to see a similar problem ?

I have connected a bluetooth mouse and a bluetooth keyboard to the Z Tablet.

My Wifi seems to have then interferences and can not get data in or out even if the signal strength is on full bars.

When I switch off my Bluetooth devices the WIFI is back on right away.

Also just one Bluetooth device is causing the problem however it looks to me as not as severe.

Hi,

Same issue here : connecting a Microsoft Wedge Mobile Keyboard prevents the wifi to work properly (although connection seems to remain open).

There is no issue with a mono directional bluetooth speaker.

Very annoying as I use my tablet for professional reasons too.

i and a lot of other people would really appreciate it if this issue was given some more attention. i'm really getting upset about not being able to use any bluetooth devices AND the internet at the same time...

Hello,

I would like to contribute with the following elements.

  • The interference of Wifi and bluetooth is a generally known problem e.g. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps9391/ps9393/ps9394/prod_white_paper0900aecd807...
  • All smartphone / tablet providers (including Apple) have problems with this e.g https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3813436?start=0&tstart=0
  • A possibility is that the Wifi signal is at the limit, so that when you startup a Bluetooth connection (and certainly 2 of them), these signals interfere with the Wifi signal, so that the Wifi connection drops beneath a minimum  level and detection of the internet data is no longer possible
  • I personally have an Xperia P that I use for streaming Internet radio via Wifi and send it to Bose loudspeakers via Bluetooth with no problem at all
  • I have noticed that some Tablet Z owners have a problem with the Wifi / Bluetooth combination, others not (see Amazon US)

My advice :

  • Check the status of your Wifi signal (use for example inSSider on your PC or Wifi Analyzer (see Google play) on your Android)
  • Change the Wifi channel on your router if too many other Wifi networks use the same channel
  • Check if the Wifi signal of your network is strong enough (typically - 60 dBm)
  • Check what happens when you activate Bluetooth

thanks for your response... a lot of stuff to go over there... and i will check my network signal strength and channel... but just wanted to throw in:

- i haven't yet attempted to connect the bluetooth keyboard & mouse from a different house with a different wifi network yet... i'd assume unelss the next wifi network has issues too, it shouldn't be a problem elsewhere if it's my network, right?

- my galaxy s3 i use all the time to stream music over wifi and stream out to a bluetooth jambox speaker. so the s3 obviously doesn't have this wifi + bluetooth issue at home...

edit: and one other thing, I just installed a wifi signal analyzer and it pretty much fluctuates between -40 and -60... this is on my phone though, not the tablet, but i'd imagine signal strength is signal strength, regardless of what you're reading it from...

Hello,

point 1 : it would be a good experience to try this in different networks, as you said if you have the same problem in different networks, this would point in the direction of an Xperia problem

point 2 : electromagnetic interference is an awkward thing : under different conditions (e.g. other Wifi channel, other antenna position, other electromagnetic sources) the Xperia might perform better than the Galaxy - if the Samsung would perform in most circumstances better than the Xperia, this would point again in the direction of an Xperia problem

point 3 : a level between -40 and -60 dBm is an excellent level, however if too many Wifi networks would use the same channel, this situation still can lead to a bad performance, so check this out

Let's put it the other way around :

Dear Sony, I recently bought a Wifi 32Gb tablet Z. For professional reasons, I need to browse the internet with an external wireless (presumably bluetooth) keyboard.

As I can't find a list of compatible accessories on the web, let me ask the following question :

Which model of external keyboard can I use to browse the web on my Tablet Z ?

Thanks beforehand,

Michel

Edit August 8 : I've asked the customer service by mail. I got the automated replay and then...nothing (6 weeks now)

I have the same issue with a Microsoft wedge keyboard.  If I use the speedtest app without the keyboard connected I get 8Mb.  With the keyboard connected I get 150Kb max with it only working for small periods of time.

I just discovered this problem today.   Bought my Experia Z about a month ago.   Decided to do a Google search for the problem.   Imagine my surprise when my Google search screen is filled with lots of folks having the same issue.   No,  it is not my home network, since so many other folks have the problem.

Only the tablet is common to all of us.   I don't have this problem with my iPad or my S3 using the same network and the same wireless keyboard.   Only happens on the Sony.

If they don't fix it soon, it is going back in the box and back to Best Buy.   This is a deal breaker for me.
