Battery saving android wallpapers

i was wondering if this is true?  my cousin told me that when i would install a black or very dark wallpaper on my device that i would be able to save a lot of battery time.  i'm wondering if this is true, or is it just a story?  somebody who will be able to give a good technical explication for this?  i've just downloaded this one onto my Sony Xperia M, would this be sufficient?

Well,a specific mobile brand has included a battery saving module that will make the phone black and white.It should help.But you can also reduce brightness and stop functions when you do not use them.
