Battery Jumping Down In Leaps At Stages Lately

Hi. First of all I've got a C6903 and I'm running Lollipop 5.1.1 on Build Number 14.6.A.1.216 I've had it just short of 2 years.

I've noticed lately my battery decides to just jump down by anywhere between 3-6% and sometimes even as far as 9% once it depletes under 40%

It's completely random when it does it but I could use the phone heavily for games and it'll use a lot of battery, then I put it down and pick it up like 10 minutes later to find the battery has depleted by a lot further.

Yesterday I was playing candy crush and browsing the internet on WiFi for a good while and that brought the battery down a fair bit which I'd expect.

I put the phone down on 35% only to pick it up around 10 minutes later and see 29% and after 15 seconds it jumped to 27% completely skipping 28 then proceeding to go to 26% a further 10 seconds or so later. That's 9% gone in a matter of seconds basically with no usage at all. It even jumped down in 2's another couple of times like it went 21 20 straight away and then 18 17 straight away.

It never used to do anything like this and it seems to only happen under 40 (at least that's where I've noticed).

Anyway the whole point of this post is I'm just wondering, has this happened anyone else?

Should I get a new battery or is this just a software glitch? I don't wannw buy a new battery and take the phone apart if it turns out to be a software glitch.

Thanks in advance.

Let's try fixing software glitches first, if not successful then we can assume it's a hardware problem:

- Check this post and try suggestions mentioned in it.

- Try performing a software repair using PC Companion using PC Companion.

I just did the hard reset with the volume and power keys. It was on 88% and it came back on on 81% seconds later so hopefully it was just the battery meter calibrated wrong.

Keep us updated, I strongly recommend performing a software repair using PC Companion.

OK so I ran the battery down yesterday and at 20% decided to do the hard reset again with the volume and power buttons and the phone rebooted at 13% then when I ran it down to 1% it didn't power off for about 30 minutes of heavy use playing games. The battery meter is definitely off by a fair bit somehow so I suppose I'll try a pcc restore and see what happens.

EDIT: Just decided to reset there on 90% and it rebooted on 85% so it seems to keep repeating the cycle every time it's recharged. I'll factory reset the phone and run the software repair first and see if it changes anything.

EDIT2: If I try to use PCC it says no software available for your device so my only other option is probably flashtool.

I've restored it using pcc by downgrading and using pcc to update it. It happened again today from 31 it flew down to 22 when I had stopped using it. I'm attaching the screenshot.

@steocullen91

Downgrading and updating is not the way to do it, better perform a software repair using PC Companion. Follow the guide on the link, you need your phone charged, powered off, and disconnected from PC before you begin.

On Step no. 3 of this guide, pay attention to the blue link style "repair my phone/tablet".

I have ha a similar issue but have had a partial success but am monitoring the result.

In WiFi settings advanced, there is a option to turn off scanning always available, which switches off Google etc scanning even when WiFi is off. When I did this it immediately increased the battery life by around 9 hours.

Yesterday morning the battery went from 100% to 75% in about an hour, after the tweek the phone has been on 3 hours the battery is still at 98%

Probably a bad battery, replacing the battery is not that expencive anymore. I had mine replaced for 30 euros.

Now it peachy.
