Auto-Sync cannot be switched off working properly on ICS

Hi everyone,

Since I upgraded to ICS (build number 6.1.A.0.453) I'm facing an annoying issue : my email accounts have a sync options = automatic (Push) and whether auto-sync is turn on or off in Settings > Accouns & sync or in the quick settings widget the systems constantly tries to sync.

I'm quite cross because it used to work pretty well on Gingerbread.

Did anyone ever face it? Any idea to fix it?

So, the setting in the email app is set to automatic but at Settings > Accounts & sync, you've not activated the automatic sync for this account. Did I get it right?

How about you change the automatic sync setting in the email app to off/manually? Have you tried this?

ICS and GB are different on some things so you should not expect the exact same setup.

That's exactly what I have to do since I upgraded, but:

- that's very inconvenient: i've got 2 mail accounts setup and it's far easier to switch off the auto-sync for both in one quick action

- GB used to do this perfectly

- What the point of having this main switch if it's useless ?

The main switch goes for all accounts, not just email accounts. You can turn off sync with Facebook, Google, Whats App etc.

If there's a setting for this in the apps it might be needed to change both.

If you want it to work differently, you might want to look for 3rd party email apps that work in different ways. Not sure which app to go for though. Have a look in Play Store and see what you can find.

I now this works for other apps, but there's an obvious bug with the standard email app in ICS (or at least in the version released by Sony) : According to Settings > Accounts & sync > this account's setting the last time email was synced was 24/07/2012 whilst mails from today, yesterday and the day before do are in my mailbox....

I want to know how to report it to the dev team.

You cannot report this yourself. You can either let me forward your feedback or contact the local Sony Mobile support and ask them to do this.

I can confirm that I sent it the same day I posted the comment saying I would.

I can however not say when or if this will be fixed. We just have to wait and see.
