Are installed apps and layout retained in back up?

Hi

If you want to do a factory reset (either as consequence of android update or other), will the apps and their organization/layout on phone be restored if using PC Companion?

If not, are there other methods to do that - maybe something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tw.nicky.AppBackupReinstall&hl=en  will do this? Anyone can confirm this?

not quite, you have to redownload the apps, but you can  use this alternatives

Well, I can add that my 'concerns' were actually not very relevant. Play Store keeps inventory of what you have downloaded, and automatically started to reinstall all the previous apps immediately after rebooting (after the reset). This you can stop and manually click 'install' on individual apps, should you wish to leave out some of them...
