APN Setup on AT&T - My Experience

I am on AT&T. Just got my Xperia Z5 E6653 (shipped out of Singapore) setup yesterday and it shows 4G in the status bar. SIM was provisioned using the phones actual IMEI. We also (in store) tried the IMEI of one of their demo phones, no difference.

I connected via the guest WIFI at the store and used "Settings, More, Internet Settings" and it pulled ATTNextgen, phone and wap APN's.  I have been using ATTNextgen and late last night hit 31Mbps down using the Speedtest.net app.

Also in "Settings, About Phone, Status, SIM Status: it shows 4G (not LTE as someone said it will).

Additionally "Settings, More, Mobile Networks, Preferred Network Type" selection option says "4G (preferred)/WDCMA/GSM" That is not something an operator setting would populate.

Was traveling home before so will elaborate for you, depending on which region firmware a handset is using, determines what is shown in the status bar, some say lte, some say 4g. some handsets usable bands also determine the speed of the lte/4g connection.
Hope this clears it up a little.

I'm with AT&T and

settings > about phone > status > SIM status > Mobile network type > LTE

Settings > more > mobile networks > preferred network type > LTE (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM

@uliwooly where did your phone originate?
I've had them go from lte to 4g when flashing various firmwares from different regions I suspect yours and the ops firmware localities are different and then showing the relevant 4g/lte symbol for the firmwares region.

@Viridis

It has the Nordic firmware but that's with the Z5, with the Z5 Premium it says 4G

Interesting,
It's discussed too here..

Basically, it either shows LTE or 4G when connected to a 4g connection but what it shows is dependant on what customisation is installed.
This has been my experiences too when flashing some firmwares, my Icon changes from 4g (UK Icon) to LTE (region of firmware I'm flashing to) it also does this on galaxys as well (my old S3 ended up displaying lte when I flashed a nordic rom onto it)

Best bet for the op to clarify is to get aida64 from Google play and run it, look in NETWORK and check network type.
It should say LTE as clarification, no matter what customisation is installed.

viridis,

Found I can get that info without using an 'app'.

*#*#4636#*#*

Phone Info:

 Network Type: LTE

Status bar shows 4G.  Must be the far east customization of the phone (shipped out of Singapore).
