Hello.
I was wondering if anyone else has accelerometer/tilt issues in their phone. I first noticed this when I was playing Highway Rider (a bike game). Even when I held the phone level in landscape mode, the bike would slowly tilt to the left. I had to hold the phone slightly tilted to the right to make the bike go straight. At first I thought it was a problem with the game. But then I noticed it happened with all racing games. I am not sure if the problem was there with GB as I bought the phone as soon as ICS was released and upgraded to the official International rom 6.1.A.0.452 first day. I've checked service menu and yes, the numbers seem to be slightly off. But those numbers seem to be confusing. So here's my question and request.
Question: Has anyone noticed this accelerometer problem in ICS?
Request: Like I said, the x-axis and y-axis numbers in accelerometer service menu seem to be confusing (at least to me) as everyone seems to have different values so could you guys please install smart tools (if not already installed..super tool!), open protractor II, hold the phone level in landscape mode and see if the arrow points dead down. Mine points about 3-4 degrees to the left from center down, confirming my doubt that the callibration of my phone is incorrect.
Thanks in advance.
if you place the phone flat on a surface , all values should be more or less 0
Not all values...I think the z value should be near 10. My values are:
x: +/- 0.0 (which is why I think portrait mode tilt is fine)
y: - 0.3
z: 9.6
The reason I said these values are confusing is because some people with similar values as mine have no problem in their racing games.
oh yeah my bad. z should around 10
your y value indicates a tilt towards the north (the head part)...you sure you placed it on a flat surface?
if it really bothers you, the only way to fix this is thru the sony service center.
Yup..I am sure. It's easier to test with smart tools as you can tilt your phone to make it perfectly point down then see if the phone is level...and in my case it's not.
Is service center the only way? Isn't there a possibility that software updates could fix it?
maybe repairing your phone might fix this. http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
but I'm not sure, I helped this other guy with same problem as your he was not able to fix it with update.
the most sensible answer they could come up was this was a normal phone configuration. it is like that to make the phone sensitive to tilts..
They could've easily allowed a manual callibration setting. My previous phone (HTC) had it and I think most companies have it but Sony doesn't which is unfortunate.
I think that other guy did a repair, right? I am pretty sure a repair won't fix it. I am just hopeful that a new version will fix it (an update of ICS or an upgrade to JB)
You see..service center isn't an option for me. There are no Sony service centers in my country - Bangladesh. If you haven't heard of it, that's ok! It's a country besides India. The only service centers are from Nokia and Samsung over here. We get all the other brands from individual importers. As a result, we don't even get warrenty
yeah that would be awesome, manual callibration.
there is a big chance that 2012 xperia family will be having that JB update, after all what reason they could possibly come up with not having to?
just be aware you are not the only one having this one.
Yeah..thanks for the links. I know I'm not the only one with the problem. But I can't seem to find people having xperia S with ICS version .452 having the problem. More than 150 views and it would be helpful if people would at least said 'no, i don't have the problem' or 'yes, i've a similar problem'
Thanks for trying to help nolramlb
Sure no problem, Hope it will be fixed soon.
