Incomplete google contacts sync

I just did a factory reset on my xa1 to try to clear some random app crashes. Everything was working fine until I noticed that when I did a contact sync it too seemed to take everything from Google's contact list and then it randomly decides to remove some of my contacts. I've tried importing it from a vcf, removing my entire contact list in Google and adding it back again from backup. Same issue with some contacts missing. Did a second phone reset and the same problem. I've done this work no problems before and on many other phones.. Anyone else seen this exasperating problem before?

@uliwooly Thanks so much for your suggested read. The workaround mentioned in the link helped to resolve the issue. I am still somewhat annoyed that the problem only happens with my Sony phone and none of my other devices. After going through about 15 of my missing contacts I was able to add them back into the phone.

On another note, I had actually gone on to the support link on my phone and chatted with someone regarding this issue. Was told to turn off sync, remove my missing contacts, and problem is solved, and don't forget to comment on how we helped you today. Uhm... no it didn't solve my problem, and no, that wasn't the issue I was talking about in the first place 🙂

I'm sorry that you were given the wrong info, but at least the issue its now solved  

I understand how frustrating it could be, switching to a new phone for something not to transfer properly, I've been there before.
