Tune up VGN-A117S

I'm not quite satisfied with the performance of my A117S and think it's far from being a real desktop replacement.

Has anyone tried to increase the memory or replace the harddisc? Is it worth the 500$ to extend the memory to 1024 MB or does the Hitachi-harddisc slow down the system?

Any experiences or suggestions would be very helpful.

ok guys. After looking for new dealers I could decrease the cost to 300 ¿ for 2x512 Kingston (who btw claim that their memory can upgrade an A117S up to 2 gigabyte).

But that's not exactly the point. I canot estimate wheter the system even with 1 gigabyte RAM would be slowed down by the harddisc or if it would be worth the cost.

Yep I see the point you're making - a bottleneck can cause havock, and adding RAM doesn't improve matters.

It's hard to judge. I hope someone with this notebook can help you more.

I hope so too. Thanks anyway.

This is very true, but look on the bright side, both the hard drive and the RAM can be upgraded. It might cost u but ur not stuck with it for life.

True, and with the hard disks coming on the market they're nearly the speed of it's desktop equivlant.
