I'm not quite satisfied with the performance of my A117S and think it's far from being a real desktop replacement.
Has anyone tried to increase the memory or replace the harddisc? Is it worth the 500$ to extend the memory to 1024 MB or does the Hitachi-harddisc slow down the system?
Any experiences or suggestions would be very helpful.
$500?!?! Unless that's a currency typo that is at least 5 times what you would pay for 512Mb of memory. More RAM will speed up any system, but there are endless endless reasons why your computer would not be running as fast as it should. Have you given Windows/Software a full tuneup? Usually that will give it a bit of a boost.
Five hundred Dollars? WOAH thats crazy
go to Crucial and get a good deal and good tech support.
Maybe I'm completely nuts, but my Aida tells me that the A117S has 2 bars of 256 MB inside. So in order to reach the 1G I would have to rip theese out and insert two bars of 512.
The cheapest offer I've seen here in my area would be ¿ 221,- each. My tech support (not the dealer) told me that it is strongly recommended to use the Sony originals to work properly.
@TygerTyger: I already used Tuneup Utilities 2004 in order to switch off all the usual suspects in XP to slow down the system.
You'd be well advised to take a cheap trip to the UK and buy memory here...
The UK? Cheap? :die laughing: have a look on the internet and buy it from an internet shop, even with the postage and perhaps tax you will still be way better off.
Yep
