Measuring temp ~ k series

hey i have a sony vaio pcg - k115m

id really find it useful if i could somehow measure the temp of the system, or cpu using software..

on my desktop, im running `motheboard monitor` which provides a great set of stats relatiing to the motherboard, inc cpu temp!

however, this useful program does not support the k-series motherboard (or about 90% of any other vaio motherboards)

anyone know of any other programs to display temp?

i tried searching the bios but i found it extremely limited and it basically displays very little info

thanks in advance,

Nick

yup and we also need to set some sort of rules, ie: does one measure their temp after startup or what?

for example, just after i switch it on, its idle in the low 40s...however leave it for some time and the temperature creeps up to the low 50s, im sure if i left it for ages it would sorta stabalise somewhere tho not sure where

in addition to this, doesnt our different environments affect temp? for example i live in Greece in 40 degree temp, however my laptop is in an AC ed room set at 18 deg

anyway, i think its good to measure the laptops temp after half an hour of moderate usesage for comparisson purposes with others

Yeah you're right Nick, there needs to be guidelines.

ok heres my set of results;

I switched on my laptop and following startup temp was: 42 deg

following this, i used my laptop for 30 minutes checking my email, listening to music, and watching a motor racing video clip, this all occuring over my network

After half an hour of usage, the temperature crept up to 59 degrees..and stabalised there and after another hour of continuos usage, it mantained iteself between 57-59..

Hence my laptop's temp ranges from: 42-59

Sounds good as its obviously capapble of cooling itself

anyone else got some results? (temp monitor can be found at beginingn of thread )

Did you fix your notebook TW?

The K115 is in for repair with VAIO-Link, so we'll have to wait and see.

We got a new GRT916 on Friday:smileycool:

TW can you tell us what happened with your K series laptop? Did it ever get fixed? As you can see there are quite a few of us with problems and Sony aren't budging at all acknowledging a problem.

Thanks

Hi all,

Sorry for the late reply on this post.

Our K115 was properly repaired and this went perfectly through the normal VL Repair procedure.

Now for the temp stats:

1. Range between 39 - 59

2. After 36 hours it only reached 52

Seems to run smoothly now

Downloaded the s/ware and mine is running at between 54 and 57.
Has anyone any idea at what stage alarm bells should begin to ring?

Mine also stays under 59 but still freezes. Is there any admission within Sony about freeze/reboot problems with K series laptops?

That is good, last part is bad.

Not to my knowledge.
