format hard drive

Hi All

Desperate for some help please. My pcg7d1m laptop of the past year has been a gem. Like most people I collected a lot of junk on the hard drive and over the past few month one or two programs wouldnt function properely so I decided to wipe the hard drive. All I have done is re-installed XP from a disc I had some time ago. What I didnt check was the XP I have installed is Pro but the laptop came with Home Ed pre-installed.

It looks to have installed ok but during the set-up there were a few screens which didnt make any sence to me but would only continue to the next stage when an option was chosen.

Have I buggered things up??

Is there a way to reverse what I have done and get back all the pre-installed that was on it but will wipe everything else I had on the HD.

As you can now tell I'm as thick as **** when it comes to computers so if anyone can give me an idiots guide to putting this problem right I would be forever indebted to you.

Thanks in advance

Andy

Hi Andy

welcome to Club Vaio..

As long as the recovery partition has not been deleted you could try pressing F10 repeatedly when starting you vaio, this normally would start the recovery process and return your Vaio back to it's original OS and pre-installed applications..

Select your model number from the list HERE for a guide on the recovery process..

If this does not work then you can purchase a new set of recovery disc's from Vaio-Link (about €90).

Hi Andy and welcome.

BTW, when searching the link provided by Thalamus you will not find PCG-7D1M listed. I think you will find that your actual model number is VGN-FS315E.
