been larging my sony pcv-w1 up to my friends and a couple of people i know at dixons and they have slated it cos it is intergrated graphics... yeah okay, i cant play the beefy games, but then again i dont want to, sitting comfy in the living room with the ps2 or gamecube satisfies that.. the only gaming i do on pc is mame emulator and its running that tops...
and okay, if id took my wedge of cash to a 'build it up for you place' id have got major speccage pc but would it have looked this good, could i have put the keyboard snuggly up the screen and listened to some tunes via remote control, no, or flipped the keyboard over and turned it into a 17.5 inch widescreen tele with built in dvd, i think not...
i always go through a justify spending alot of money phase after buying stuff and after re reading my post, ive just convinced myself it was the right choice.....
your opinions would be nice though....
bulit in freeview would have rocked....
WHAT MADE YOU GUYS CHOOSE VAIO???????
Same here, always wondering if I did the right thing buying items, it's annoying.
If you like your computer, then thats good. If it does what you want, the better it is.
Don't let others tell you it's rubbish if it does exactly what you want it to do.
I got my VAIO laptop for 299.00 that is why i have it, but i am now looking at spending the whole hog on a RZ504.
Well not the whole hog hopeing to get it for 999.00 as its an ex-customer machine.
By the sound of it you have made the right choice for you, dont let your mates get to you.
I think its a great machine but not my choice as it doesnt have the garphics power i would need.

As My Fellow PW 1 User . We Got The Best Complete Unit The World has to offer .
Sounds good to me.
I'd say you made the right choice too. There's another thread asking what people do - my career is in IT & the reason I chose the Vaio was that it bundled all the digital media toys I wanted:- DV editing, TV tuner, Photo editing, DVD authoring and had all the right sockets and slots (loadsa USB and Firewire, MemoryStick and a PCMCIA slot). I didn't need to think too much about it (after thinking "computers" all day). Forget Dixon's/PC World - I was in there one day (hate the place but ain't much other choice when I want a pack of DVD-R's) and the Vaio's and Mac's were just way above the boys heads. I tried to solicit some info from them on the RZ-504 package with the Network Media Receiver but they were clueless.
Sony's still a bit lacking in getting the Vaio story totally coherent but they're nearly there. Vaio is the 2nd best thing to a Mac for digital media, but it's cheaper and provides a good platform for many third party bits. Don't knock cheaper!!
Games: agree - go buy a XBox, PS/2, whatever.
Regarding DVB-T or DVB-S, I'm not paying Sky a penny either - I'm already paying for the BBC so Freeview is fine. I got my Nebula Electronics DigiTV PCI card yesterday to go into an RZ-302 - I'll post an update on it when I get it installed. They do a USB interfaced unit too that'd suit those with Vaio W1's, etc. (http://www.nebula-electronics.com). I think If you've got Gigapocket/Gpkt Explorer then the DigiTV saved MPEG's should be importable into a "cabinet" and hence displayable via through Vaio Media server and the Network Media Receiver. The advantage of DigiTV over the VTX-D800 configuration is that the PC controls the TV tuner and records the MPEG-2 stream direct to disk without converting it out to analogue and back to digital.
If Nebula could get their software working with www.tvtv.co.uk then I'll rarely look at direct on-air TV again!
Not knocking the VTX-D800, I've got one hooked up to a Sony 14" TV and a pair of Sony powered speakers in our "family" room. Sony gear just looks so good!.
guitarkid: do you play guitar? Have you looked at the Line6 GuitarPort or M-Audio's MobilePre plus the DSound RT Player Express software they bundle? One or other is on my wish list for next purchase. Got a muso friend with the Line6 Pod - a really great toy!
I would have to agree that the VAIO is the second best multimedia machine behind Mac G5
vaiodon, no no no no no dont get your discs from dixons group, go here www.blankdiscshop.co.uk they are super cheap and deliver to you in know time, id recommend the a grade ritek go4 dye discs, £8.00 for 25, bargain.....
just looking at music and computers at the mo, i use a digitech processor, it seems to do all i want, the line 6 pod is cool though and oh so good looking, i used soundtrack on my g4 emac but space and kids forced sale and my g3 ibook dosent run it, but im more focusing on the sony and windows at the mo than mac os, the g5s are great but cost and space become an issue, epsecially if its not a needed item, i think the sony will do all i want it to as would any other pc, the sony adds a bit of class though.... my wifes well jealous looking over from her black dell with 15" lcd while im typing this post watching tv in a small screen in the top corner, LOVELY....
DO NOT buy discs from pc world, big big big rip off...
I totally agree about PC World / Dixons, they are rip off merchants.
