Xperia s "stuck" in what i can only assume flash mode

Just got an s today and it instantly told me there was an update. downloaded the software hooked up the phone using power + down volume then windows told me a flash device was connected phone screen went to low level backlight but no content.

Phone stayed this way with PC software just spinning around and around as if waiting for the phone.

Cant turn the phone OFF obviously not ON either just have this $500.00 brick and cant even reset it as there is no battery to remove.

Help please SONY

Maybe should have bought the HTC one X it was a toss up between the two. Haha

PS phone fully charged and was functioning fine before upgrade attempt

Also the phone is not discovered when connected via USB.

Hard reset- you need to press power button and voulme up for about 5 seconds
Do the following

Update/Repair your phone via PCC OR SUS

PCC (PC COMPANION) – Repair your software with this .First do the setup without connecting your mobile to pc.(only connect when you are asked to).

Do it as follow >> PCC > SUPPORT ZONE> SOFTWARE UPDATE> REPAIR SOFTWARE (written with blue)

SUS ( Sony Update Service)  ... download and install it on pc and follow the on-screen instructions http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/Software%20Downloads/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe

Both the links are same

after that again try to hard reset
