Touch/Swipe Problem with Xperia neo V

I bought this phone on 26th February, 2012 and it was working fine till around March end and suddenly I started experiencing swipe issues:

1) At some occasions, when I recieved calls swipe/drag to right to accept the call didn't work. I assumed it could be a memory issue where I might have many processes running at the backgroud.

Till this problem spread to the different level:

2) Unlock swipe/drag option also started behaving the similar way as mentioned above but at this point I was sure that it has nothing to do with the memory issue since it happened even I restarted my phone.

3) It has increased more when I made an update to Icecream Sandwitch (ICS) version. The latest issues I am facing now are:

a) Pattern lock doesn't work effectively, I have to make 4-5 attempts to unlock it

b) If I put scroll lock (left to right drag function) instead of pattern (I noticed in ICS that they have made this option and pattern optional while in Gingerbread you had to perform both the functions to unlock phone) even then it is hard to unlock phone and I had to make few attempts to unlock it.

--- For resolution, I went to the service center where they made an update to the software (OS) but interestingly it took me back to Gingerbread from ICS however problem with Pattern and scroll unlock still persists.

Service center feels that it might be touch screen issue however I am not sure since this problem is occuring ONLY at Home screen or you can say at the Unlock time or sometimes while receiving/accepting the calls. It does work perfectly, if I go to Settings > Localion and Security > Screen Unlock > Change Screen Lock > Confirm Saved Pattern. It takes the pattern input at this level with no issues at all.

I am scheduled to go to service center today as they said it has to be sent for touch screen replacement / further testing today however wanted to see if it is really a hardware issue or a software issue.

PS: Since my phone OS is reinstalled by service center hence it has very less softwares installed mostly delivered hence software conflicts should not be the possibility.

I found below discussion in forum which has similar issue discussed but it has some software update which I am not very comfortable with unless service center does it for me. Below are the discussion details:

Thanks for the help guys!

After ruining my weekend and half of today running between the Service Center and the store from where I purchased the phone, I finally returned the phone today. Thank God! The store folks said we could select any other handset, so now I am confused again..any suggestions?

Neo V is not a bad choice it's the handset which had the issue. One of my colleague bought the same phone from same shop one week later than me and his phone is working just great (flawless).

If I would have been given such choice then I might wanted to upgrade to Xperia S or atleast Xperia P (if budget would be the contraint)

Xperia P has WhiteMagic™ technology which gives you clearity even you are out to the sunlight. This is missing in Neo V and even in Xperia S otherwise if you can wait Sony will be launching new models by this year end (till sometime around Diwali) and as I have heard they would be below Xperia S price.

My Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, finally came back from service centre after 38 days. They replaced the touch screen and now it´s finally fixed. I hope the problem don´t came back again. I realized that the GPS now is a considerable slower than before. Maybe a problem on google maps, or my 3g connection. not sure.

I am sorry to hear that you are also facing the same issue.

The only solution for this issue is to visit your nearest service center and have them replace your touch screen since it is nothing but an hardware issue so no matter if they update or upgrade the software issue would remain the same.

I was thinking that's ICS issue, but now I know. Hardware problem. I must visit service center.

Well....for me suddenly the problem is solved!!!!

I'm very glad that my display is working again! It has been for about 3 months since I was facing the problem.

Unfortunately I do not have a clear solution to this, but I can explain what I did that day, and hopefully the solution is in there. But I can not garantee it.

What I did that day

1. I tried to get beats audio working, so I had installed a numerous of Beats libs. (see xda-developers for some of those libs). The last one I tried was Walkman port by ThilinaC. Not sure how this can be related to the display issue

2. I flashed a new rom. But this time I formatted /system and /data in CWM. Normally I just did a factory reset and installed the new rom. (but guess factory reset also formats /system and /data)

Still....guess this has nothing to do with the display

3. I did a offline charge. When my phone was empty I wanted to charge it fast. So I switched off my phone, and then connected the charger to offline charge the phone.

Really not sure how the above points could be a solution to de display failure, but guess if it was the digitizer that was the problem, it's strange that it is fixed out of knowhere....but the above actions are what I did that day....so maybe it's helpful and is the solution in there...maybe.

I'm glad the problem is gone Slightly_smiling_Face
