Text messages being read on their arrival

Each and every text message my Xperia S recieves is read out (auto-voice).  I would like to turn this off.  If you know how to do this, please let me know - thank you.

Sony were unable to assist - even a phone reset didn't assist in stopping this.

Will do...

have had another thought... but can't validate it.  I had message(s) prior to trialling the two NFC tags which came with the phone and don't remember those few messages being spoken prior to trialling the NFC tags.  It was after the trial of the NFC tags (which I've now switched off and don't use) that the text-to-speech for the messages has happened. This maybe a coincidence though.

I've tested voice messages to the phone and when it is received there is no ring but a single "ding" sound just prior to the message being read out.  Then the message registers.  Same happens when recieving text messages from friends et al.

:smileyangry:,,,:smileydevil:,,,:smileylaugh: what type of fix should I have been expecting as it certainly wasn't having the brand new phone die on me!

your first issue

go to the smart tags and make sure that none of them have this

text to speech > text to speech actions > speak incoming text messages

Yep, the red tag has the text to speech command.

With the assistance of the local retailer a repair was completed successfully.

I don't know why I backed the phone up as the parts that I wanted to be restored couldn't be done - a condition imposed by Sony.  On advice from the retailer, I didn't include "settings" in the restore.  Restore doesn't restore any apps which have been loaded post purchase.  It actually lists the apps that it won't restore.

I'm in the process of, yet again, updating the phone in the 8 pre-installed apps which bites a big chunk in my data allowance.

Thanks for your help.  I won't be using the NFC tags - at all.  And I'm not going to update the "smart connect" app.

smart connect has another bug, if you connect your phone to the wall charger or computer your home launcher can rotate to landscape BUT if you update liveware to smart connect this feature it's disabled

remember that you can disable apps to use data

settings data usage
