Strange network behaviour - is this normal?

I keep my neo MT15i on wcdma/gsm network mode so that it can do voice and data.

I have recently noticed that after each call that I receive - irrespective of data being enabled - the network goes off and then comes back on. I can see this in the notification bar where it shows the exclamation icon, network goes to 0 with an x and then in the next couple of seconds it comes back to normal connected.

Is this supposed to happen ?

Generally Not.

But it may depend if WCDMA signal strength is varying in your area/position. Check by using WCDMA ONLY and GSM ONLY modes if the issue is reproducible with them too.

If yes, you may probably need to get your phone to the service center.

Can you also advise if this happens in every location or does this only happen when situated at home?

By location if you mean home network then it happens in the home network irrespective of where I am ; home or office.

This doesnt happen when I am on roaming network.

also, http://talk.sonymobile.com/people/trivalent I switched to GSM only and this problem doesn't come. Only happens when I select WCDMA(preferred)/GSM option.

What about WCDMA Only?

Update:

If this doesn't happens with WCDMA probably this could be a software issue when selected WCDMA(preferred)/GSM mode. If it occurs in WCDMA mode, please get your phone diagnosed at Service center.

1. Please try with some other carrier (if possible).

2. With WCDMA(preferred)/GSM Mode, please check standing in an open area, with a good signal strength and try it. Hopefully you must have tried it already.

At last, you can always move to service center, as already advised Slightly_smiling_Face

Ok, found out that my network plan doesn't support WCDMA as it is packaged as a different one for 3G.

I have to switch to the 3G plan they offer in order to use WCDMA.

But question that I now have is that this was supposed to be a HSPA device then why is it showing WCDMA only as the option besides GSM?

Good to know that your problem has been resolved.

HSPA uses WCDMA protocol for High Speed Comunication. The options you are getting are different procotols/switching techniques used for Mobile Communication. This would be confusing for the end user to list GPRS/ EDGE / 3G / HSPA / HSPA+ etc etc in options, so better to describe GSM / WCDMA as the only choices.

Hopefully I answered you.
