I bought and using Xperia P in Croatia, but I'm not getting any info by the mobile or the PC Companion application about the update to Gingerbread. PC Companion says that my Phone is up to date. How to get the update available message?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I don't think that Sony would release something that is not safe! Otherwise I would not have bought the Xperia P at all, which instead I loved immediately and it's an amazing device!
All the new software releases, especially when are a new big-step (let's say an upgrade instead of a simple update), include a % of small issues and bugs which are then fixed with some next patches and updates, as I've experienced during many years working with computer and software, and as you know as well. Only for this reason and for having read some Xperia P owners topics (which is always good to read to get an idea...) that I had some indecision on making the upgrade.
In the end, I'm glad to know that the update is quite safe therefore tomorrow I'll update my device!
PS: one last question ... what you suggest to do before to make the update? You've written to "wipe" the phone, how you mean exactly?
Thanks again for helping!
Well, to be honest I'm not sure is there an option for wiping data when upgrading thru PC Companion or SUS, but You can do factory reset before update, or repair in SUS after the uograde.
Since I'm from Croatia like You, and my Xperia is locked to network (T-Mobile), I didn't have patience to wait for official update date, so I updated it manually (xda-developers) anf there im Flashtool. Is option to wipe data (all except /sdcard folder).
Most of the problems you read about here are not bugs but problems because of the incorrect update procedure.
Well thanks for the info. By the way, I'm already experiencing that this upgrade to ICS is already making problems before to start...
- Still reading that people having problems till yesterday ...
- I started the Online Update and hte Java version is not good so it needs to be downgraded.. (?!)
- I would really to know WHY the PC COMPANION software (which should manage better than anything else the Xperia device) DOES NOT recognize that there is an update available (as detected by the Online Updater) and still showing that my Xperia P is up to date, instead it is not at all, I didn't upgrade to ICS!!
So many complications and loosing time for a mobile device upgrade ...
Try SUS (Sony Update Service) or Flashtool (manual update requiring offline firmware file *.ftf).
Problems with Java might apear because of recent frequent updates of Java, while PC Companion is certified for older Java version only.
Manual update might look scary, but it's not, and it debrands your phone if it's branded, an gives you oportunity to uninstall bloatware without rooting.
Yes thanks, in fact I've download the Sony Update Service... but also this process seems having some issues ... I did the 1.2.3. steps, the S1Boot has been downloaded, now waiting... I don't know for what ... the SUS is still on the Connect page, only the "previous" button is showed (not an eventual Next, as I guess), phone is onnected, but nothing is happening from 15 min .... no messages, nothing ... (should I pray.. or what else... ?!)
Hahaha ... SUS it's saying that I've the latest updated software!!
Any other puzzle way to upgrade to ICS..?! It's crazy really..!
Is it possible to know which JAVA version is required by Sony Online Updater to run? I've installed Java Plug-in 1.6.0_33.
PS: so was I right at the beginning of this topic that the ICS upgrade process does not work properly some way? Is this the way to manage an upgrade with so many parties missing? How the process can fail due to Java...? And due to the SUS application which is unable to detect an update availabe..? And due to PC companion as well which does not detect nothing at all..?
i think PCC requires the latest JAVA update in order to work.
I use SUS because it is more stable than PCC.
You should factory reset first before you update.
Very well thanks. Question is: Why the SUS which controls update process IS NOT ALERTING TO FACTORY RESET BEFORE UPDATE!? Why? I'm of course asking to SONY Staff this question!! Why......?! Is it a "game" this upgrade process or it's a way to make people "relax" from job loosing time on this upgrade process!?!?
