I picked up my new Cedar yesterday. The main reason for choosing the Cedar was the twitter app and the micro USB charging port. I wanted a backup phone that would only need one in-car charger and would only need me to pack one charger when travelling light with hand luggage. I also wanted the simple fixed-focus camera as something to use to upload to twitpic.
I cannot log in to Twitter. I get the "Incorrect user name or password" error message. This might be one of those OAuth issues that seem to plague Twitter from time to time. Strangely, when I look at the connections listed in my Twitter settings by viewing my account on this PC I see that "Sony Ericsson Phone by Sony Ericsson, Sony Ericsson Phone Twitter Application" has read and write access approved about 14 hours ago
I'd welcome any tips that people might have that would help me log in using the SE Twitter app on the Cedar. Following a look at this forum and some other discussions on the web I have checked that the time and date are set correctly on the phone and that the time zone is correct, and I have tried setting a new Twitter password with no numerals in it but this has not worked so I have switched again to a more complex password. I have also dowloaded Update Service from the SE websited. Running it resulted in the phone being updated but no change to the behaviour of the Twitter app/widget. (I can log in to Twitter mobile using the Cedar's browser -- it's also showing on my Twitter settings connections page as having read and write access approved about 14 hours ago -- but that would not give me twitpic functionality.)

Solved! Go to Solution.
I have exactly the same problem. I am able to get in via web browser, but I want to be able to post photos and this can only be done through the Twitter application.
Please update with what progress SE is making on fixing this.
The problem i think is related to HTTPS connections!
Try to connect using cedar internal browser to HTTPS://WWW.TWITTER.COM
It will fail with the same message of client application: "Unable to verify protected connection, do you want to continue ?"
Maybe it is related to "certificated" that have not been installed into the phone.
I live in italy, and i can ensure that NOBODY here can connect a cedar phone to twitter, at least with my carrier "FASTWEB" mobile
The phone used as a modem for a laptop will effectively work both in http / https.
I'm confident this is a FIRMWARE/APPS issue that need to be resolved by a Sony-Ericsson software update.
So please, stop whining about wrong configurations ant try to solve the problem removing the root cause.
Also, streaming of youtube videos does not works at all, at least with "FASTWEB" italian carrier.
Twitter app on CEDAR simply does not work! (cant connect)
I think it's because bad handling of the cedar phone for HTTPS connections.
When you attempt to navigate to HTTPS://www.twitter.com you got the same
popup error message of the twitter java app --> "Unable to verify protected connection..."
Please, solve this issue with a firmware update... !
My cedar do not work at all with Twitter (cannot login), YouTube (bleck screen), HTTPS connections (cannot verify protection).
All settings are ok, everything works using it as a modem for PC. Carrier is FASTWEB 3G ITALY
My phone SW ver: 1239-0125 R7EA011 101215 SonyEricsson
I really like the phone, but network support is too much buggy.
Twitter dont work because phone does not support HTTPS with some carriers.
try loading this page with internal browser --> https://www.twitter.com
It will display a popup warning that you cant verify protection, bla bla
Sony ericsson guys are totally unresponsive, they continue to whine about
wrong configurations, but this is really, in my humble opinion, a firmware
problem (maybe lack of proper certificates). Maybe they will try to SERIOUSLY
investigate onto this problem, only after discovering that people facing this issues
are really zilions, but i am not hopeless on a firmware upgrade.
Come on SonyEricsson... this is a cheap phone, but givin your support i think
i wont buy a better phone at all from the same brand, if support is non-existent.
I wonder to know if does really exist an owner of 'Cedar' that is REALLY ABLE to login to twitter.
As far as i know, ALL 'cedar' are flaweb, with a non-working twitter and non-working youtube app.
Do anyone can confirm the phone works with twitter at all ?
que estan haciendo realmente para solucionar el problema o simplemente guardaran silencio no tenemos ningun tipo de respuesta de parte de sony ericsson o sus moderadores .... you really making something to help us
Does anyone know when SE will comeback to us regarding updating the widget?
Each time I try to use the twitter widget, apart from the usual message "cannot verify the protected connection, do you want to continue ?" and clicking "yes", I get the message "a new update is available. Download?. Choosing yes, the update gets stuck on "please wait". I tried testing to see how long it would take before the update completes. It's been 3 days now and twitter widget still says "please wait".
Any feedback from SE? Anything at all?
I have tried Twitter app using different operators, TIM and FASTWEB.
With both of them twitter app DO NOT WORK. (I am in italy)
It seem to be related to failing certificate for https connections.
PLEASE SONY ERICSSON FIX THIS PROBLEM
PLEASE SONY ERICSSON FIX THIS PROBLEM
PLEASE SONY ERICSSON FIX THIS PROBLEM
PLEASE SONY ERICSSON FIX THIS PROBLEM
I think SE have abbandoned CEDAR to it's destiny.
They simply refuse to support it.
I have called by phone several time whining about this problem, and they still insist on dumb replies like "check your internet settings", "replace the defective phone", "try another carrier", "you are the only one having this problem".
All this just for not accepting that FIRMWARE IS FLAWED but they do not have any resources or intention to fix it.
Is this the support we deserve ?
Please, moderator, contact SE firmware developers and give us a comprehensive reply if someone is taking seriously this issue or we have to give up!
