I picked up my new Cedar yesterday. The main reason for choosing the Cedar was the twitter app and the micro USB charging port. I wanted a backup phone that would only need one in-car charger and would only need me to pack one charger when travelling light with hand luggage. I also wanted the simple fixed-focus camera as something to use to upload to twitpic.
I cannot log in to Twitter. I get the "Incorrect user name or password" error message. This might be one of those OAuth issues that seem to plague Twitter from time to time. Strangely, when I look at the connections listed in my Twitter settings by viewing my account on this PC I see that "Sony Ericsson Phone by Sony Ericsson, Sony Ericsson Phone Twitter Application" has read and write access approved about 14 hours ago
I'd welcome any tips that people might have that would help me log in using the SE Twitter app on the Cedar. Following a look at this forum and some other discussions on the web I have checked that the time and date are set correctly on the phone and that the time zone is correct, and I have tried setting a new Twitter password with no numerals in it but this has not worked so I have switched again to a more complex password. I have also dowloaded Update Service from the SE websited. Running it resulted in the phone being updated but no change to the behaviour of the Twitter app/widget. (I can log in to Twitter mobile using the Cedar's browser -- it's also showing on my Twitter settings connections page as having read and write access approved about 14 hours ago -- but that would not give me twitpic functionality.)

Solved! Go to Solution.
Let me know how it goes when your local support team get's back to you.
Can't sing in either... there's gotta be a solution to this... you can't just say... oh sorry go to your local support.... this seems so simple... that stupid widget is not working... and you should provide us an update or something... THANK YOU
Perhaps unsurprisingly, there has been no response from the "local support team" (SE in the UK). I know the Cedar is not a particularly expensive phone but that should not be a reason to ignore people who have spent money buying one SIM-free. Good service, even if a solution could not be arrived at, would probably have left me feeling positive about Sony Ericsson. SE may not think brand loyalty counts for much, and in this day and age consumers have plenty of options to chop and change as they see fit, but, as things stand now, I don't think I will look to upgrade to an Xperia Arc or an Experia Neo in three months' time.
SE are not the only large company to treat customers in this way. I've had similar problems dealing with other companies. Sony's UK support, for a example, telling me a laptop computer with a rattling fan that made grinding noises was "perfoming to specification, according to their engineers". Toyota GB, for example, showed complete lack of knowledge of the contents of a car's owner's manual (an issue following a car's first annual service). Toyota GB phoned me back to say nothing was wrong with the work carried out on the car, and they knew this because they had phoned the very person at the dealership who I was in dispute with to check. I never had the car serviced there again -- I searched around for a place that sounded like they knew what they were doing and could tell me accurately what they were going to do at the car's service without having to bluff and cover -- and I've since sold it. And a few years ago I had Samsung UK support give completely different unhelpful messages when trying to sort out an issue I had with one of their phones, one I'd paid for rather than a model that had come free with a contract (on a couple of the calls I made to Samsung, it seemed like the person I spoke with was making it up as they went along and really had little or no knowledge of mobile phones). It strikes me that many large companies put customer support teams in place just so they can say that they have a customer support team, but in the end it is not seen as a priority -- I suspect staff tasked with answering the queries of customers are underpaid and undertrained.
In that last example, I chased Samsung support by phoning them numerous times at my expense (both money and time). I've no desire to go down that route with SE so I'll be selling the Cedar on. As to whether or not I go the Xperia route later this year....
I would just like to say that I'm currently investigating this to see where the problem may be located.
I'll get back to you guys as soon as I have any information about this.
Could you guys please provide me with what software customization you're using?
You'll find that info by entering the command >*<<*<* in standby. Then go to Service info and Software info. Scroll down to Customization.

I've now been testing this and I can reproduce the problem that you guys experience with the Twitter widget in the phone.
I've forwarded this to concerned team for investigation and I'll get back to you as soon as I have any news.
In the meanwhile I suggest that you use the mobile page for Twitter. m.twitter.com
I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
Just before the maintenance started on the forum I received info that the sign in problem with the Twitter app was actually caused by a problem located at Twitter themselves.
According to my information this should now be solved.
Reboot your phones and try to log in again.
Hi Johan,
I must inform you that this problem still occurrs. Twitter widget always shows message incorrect username or password.
There is another bug in Facebook widget. I am able to log in, but i can't see any content in application. Even if i push many times refresh. There is only progress bar of refresh status but screen always remains white.
With Google mail appllication I have no problem. I am using java app from m.google.com. When used internal email client also without any problems.
I've updated the phone 2 weeks ago.

Yes.
I bought SE phone on purpose since good experience from w880i.
I bought my cedar on 22.06 and the twitter app dont work.
I get "incorrect user or pass".
And the widgets menu only is able to display SIGN IN TO TWITTER ever since
I tried it. I cant log in, I cant quit it, unless I quit the whole menu.
I have changed my password and even user many times now.
Also there is a bug in youtube app - it makes the first letter of your
password upper case, and you cant change it, and you cant login,
unless you use bogus first letter and delete it later.
Also the sound quality on the phone is very very bad. Its like from another
world. The retailer listened to it and told me with the straight face - thats how
it should be. I cant literally understand what people are saying. Though music
sounds good.
What do you mean "reboot" your phone? You think I must use the
default settings? I'm afraid I'm gonna lose all my settings, usernames,
passwords and bookmarks.
What do do?
Veiko
So whats it going to be?
Is anyone going to answer me?
