Cannot set up Tiscali e-mail account

Cannot set up Tiscali e-mail account

Help please with this infuriating problem.  On the face of it, how difficult can it be to set up an e-mail account?  Tap on Email then enter e-mail address and e-mail account password.  So, I've done that and am told that Setup could not finish because one of the username or password is incorrect.  They are both correct!!

I have browsed similar trails already but cannot find an answer to this specific query.  I have been able to connect on my previous phone (Nokia E63) without a hitch.

Is there something else I should be doing?

Thanks,

Gordon

I don't have an X10 here, but do you get an option for Advanced set up on the log in screen of the Email app, or possibly by pressing the Menu button to bring up further options? If you do then you can add the imap/pop3 details as supplied by Tiscali (normally available on their help pages).

If you don't have this option then I would suggest downloading an app from the market such as K9 or Maildroid and this will let you set the account up giving the full details.  I used K-9 on my X10 for mail.

Let us know how you get on.

thanks for a prompt response Suze.  I am assuming that the X10 and mini pro are one and the same for the purpose of this query?).

OK, so I've downloaded Maildroid and selected 'Auto Setup' with the result - 'we are unable to find settings for your provider'.

I then tried manual setup.  I needed to select account type and chose POP3 although my account seems to be just POP, without the 3.  Not sure what difference that makes . . . Copied the (incoming) server details that work on my Thunderbird client (pop.tiscali.co.uk).  I presume the outgoing server details are the same??  And, hey presto, it worked!!

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Gordon, sorry assumed you had the X10 as you had posted the query in that part of the forum.  Just for clarity when you say mini pro do you mean X10 Mini Pro (2010) or just plain Mini Pro (2011)?  I couldn't get my blueyonder account to set up automatically on my X8 which is the same as the 2010 X10 mini's but doing the advanced set up with a downloaded app worked fine for me too.

Anyway, hope you are sending and receiving now without a problem albeit on a different app.
