Hello!
I was having this slight problem since buying the phone back in october 2011. Some updates on Android market (=Google play store) do not download if I'm using an HSDPA (3G, EDGE ot whatever) connection. If I do this manually, an error message appears with the following: "Error. Update for "XXX" could not be downloaded due to an error. (413)". XXX are always the same apps - skype, facebook, maps, etc. Other apps can be updated automatically/manually without problems.
On a wi-fi conection everything is working fine. Moreover, I have noticed that the "problematic" apps are usually quite large - several MB or more in size.
Is that a problem with the phone's software or a network issue? I doubt the latter because everyone in my country would have the same difficulties. Can anyone offer a solution?
In any case, I am putting big hopes that ICS updates will fix such bugs.
Thanks in advance,
Igor

The issue appeared to be in my network. For some reason, my phone automatically downloaded a wrong proxy IP adress and a port number for internet settings. This caused an error when downloading files of 5+MB.
I contacted the operator and the next day they explained how I should reconfigure the phone. Worked like a charm.
try this
settings -> applications -> manage applications -> all -> play/market -> clear cache and uninstall updates

It says that software is already up-to-date (which is the case). No wonder, because I have reinstalled the whole thing before yesterday.
I am looking forward for android 4 to come out
that was my suggestion not to update but to repair it
perhaps you have the wrong APN settings
settings -> sony ericsson -> internet settings
or enter them manually
settings -> wireless & networks -> mobile networks -> apn -> menu -> add New -> enter data -> menu -> save
google: apn settings android __name of your network___
