It should work, but if it doesn't even after L1 and Xperia Companion computer restarting then don't fight it any longer and walk the Google Backup path.
If the same thing happened with you after the restarting both of the devices, you may need to test another Laptop or PC with the Xperia Companion and check again. But I would agree to go with the Google back up , I believe it's more safe.
