Z3 repeatedly falls due to slippery back

I have an issue with the z3 which I believe is a design flaw.

The glass back, while very nice, is so smooth that it just won't stay on many surfaces. I've put it on a book on a table, and it falls off within a minute. I have it plugged in overnight on a wooden bedside table, and it slowly slides off onto the floor. I even put it on a cushion on the sofa and it slides off that as well.

I've compared each scenario with a Samsung Galaxy S3, with a smooth plastic back, and an iPhone 5s with a smooth metal back, and neither of them slide at all.

If I was doing anything odd like tilting the surface or putting it on an already sloping table, I wouldn't complain. But I think this is going to happen to many people. I've seen comments about this on reddit, xda-developers, gsm arena and on a review on The Register website. The ease at which the phone slides and falls is, In my opinion, totally unreasonable, and ought to be addressed by Sony because their design has caused a problem which could so easily lead to the phone smashing, simply because it's been plugged it in to charge - a problem which doesn't happen with two other phones I've tried, and I doubt happens with most others.

Yes it's easy to buy a case but I don't see why I should have to spend more, simply to stop my phone falling on the floor, and which would hide the design of what is otherwise a beautiful phone.

Does anyone else have this problem? Ideally I'd like Sony to provide, free of charge, some kind of case (or other creative design) to fix this, because the ease at which is slips is pretty ridiculous! If any Sony designers read this I'd love to know your thoughts. And if anyone else recognises this problem please make yourselves known.

My Z3 doesn't slip when kept on hard surfaces like table but it slips when kept on soft surface like sofa. I purchased the Style Cover and it sloves the slipping problem.

I have my z3 for more than 2 months now. The first dayd were real hard. I also felt that my demon was trying to escape me. I used an actually wood designed silicon case for 2 weeks. But, I love the copper look of my z3 so i just dumped my case. So now I live extra careful with my phone, and sometimes I do mention myself how 'excellent' job the design team did.

To be honest, you get used to it.

Front screen has cracked by itself and now phone will not work, it is less than 14 days old and my network provider will not help. I've lost everything. Anyone else had this problem?

After mine fell off of my desk or nightstand at least once every day for a week or so, I glued a sheet of fiddleback walnut veneer to the back. Problem solved.

That looks rather nice......lovely job, i mentioned in another thread that if nobody wanted to fit a full case then possibly fitting just a 'skin' to the back may help....:smileysmileywink:

Had mine for 2 months and it constatly slips. I am extra causcious of where I put it to avoid it falling down. Unfortulately in the last few days it has dropped twice. Both times on a carpet. First time about 50cm, the corner of the back glass panel has cracked, and the back panel has been dented slightly so it sticks out and squeaks as I press it.

Second time, just now, 30cm, while charging. It fell down on the charging cable socket, and now it won't charge!

I was with iPhone for 4 years before and decided to get an Android to get a real comparison of both worlds. I swear, this phone makes me want to go out and buy iPhone 6. But now I am stuck with a broken phone that I've paid a lot of money for, and can't return it as it's damaged!

Why should you be expected to buy a case to cover up a phone is beyone me. It should be a personal choice. Especially if a phone is designed in a colour. If' I'd wanted to cover it up n a case I'd buy it boring black!

This is how my Z3 cracked:

The speed that the Z3 moves by is so slow that it's hardly visible by the naked eye. I asked a physicist friend about how this was possible but even he wasn't sure.

I'm still waiting for the service to offer me a price to fix my phone.

Out of interest I installed a clinometer app on my phone, after getting a cracked rear glass. My Z3 started sliding with a 2 degree incline!!!!

I will be trying my luck with Sony service AU, but I dont like my chances... After upgrading from a Z, which never had issues like this, I hope they will fix it out of good will.
