Hello everyone.
A week ago I bought the xperia zl phone and I tried to also use the pre installed "Remote Control" App to use the built in Infrared blaster. I can't make it work though. What I did is:
- I manually installed two deviceds (projecter / av receiver).
- Through the remote control software I programmed some keys in holding the original remote of the device in front of the infrared blaster of the ZL. The Remote Control App told me that it 'Learnt the command'. I then saved everything and tried to use the programmed button but both deviced don't react. It seems the infrad signal is not sent out.
- I also tried to hold the infrared blaster of the zl really close to the deviced - still no reaction.
Do I miss something? Does infrared have to be switched on seperately? I checked in the apps and all Remote Control Apps / Service seem to be running.
I did uninstall / disable some sony apps before but I don't think I disabled relevent apps for the remote control to work....
Anyone having the same problem? or a solution
?
Michael

Dear Sony Tech Support Staff
I just bought a Xperia ZL cell phone, model C6502, mfg date is 13W50, updated to Android 4.3, build number 10.4.1.B.0.101.
The problem: Remote Control App does not work with my two Directv Satellite Receivers, models LHR22 & L12, however it works fine with all my TVs Sony, Toshiba and Samsung. Also, learning function does not work either. I have tried all default codes for Directv and I have used other brands codes like Thompson, Hughes Network Systems, etc with no luck
Could you please help me to solve this issue? or maybe suggest a third party app that could work with my phone?
Thanks in advance!
Update on my situation:
Still no phone yet, but I contacted Sony NL.
While they received my unit, Sony Germany should have sent me a replacement device. They still haven't. I was assured that they'd inform Sony Germany to go ahead and send me the replacement. Hopefully I'll get it now, finally.
I had the very same problem. After reading all this here I sent it in to the local support contractor to have it replaced for a phone produced after 13W18.
The result: I've got the very same problem, but a new phone in another color.....oh well.....
Stee, what's the production date of your new ZL?
Have you tried several different IR products to get learned?
Update on my situation: Sony Germany was supposed to send me a new unit, but instead of a BLACK one they only had a WHITE one in stock with production week after 13W18.
I didn't want a white one, so after some more effort from my contact @ Sony Germany (Martin seems to go through great lenghts getting this fixed for me), they managed to track down a black Xperia ZL, production week 13W42 at one of the smaller GER distributors.
The distributor will send me the device & hopefully I will finally get my replacement unit!
However, with posts here claiming to still have the problem, persisting even after week 18 I'm afraid this problem to be unfixable, with Sony (either intentionally OR incapably) applying stalling tactics...
Will keep you all posted!
I sent mine to the service because of the IR learning problem.
It took 3 weeks until they had a new one for exchange available.
I was happy until I opened the parcel... they sent me a Z for my ZL...
Update, I finally got a new device, conform the specs.
While this new replacement unit now has a dead pixel on the display, the IR seem to be working better. It can learn some IR commands, though sending them out seems to be hit and miss (like some background process may interfere with the device's snappy performance).
I found that the best result is obtained by only pressing the button to learn once; if it can't detect it right away and you keep pressing it until it's detected it may have learned the wrong code (or perhaps think it's a sequence of codes).
All in all it's not really what I expected. Also, having to handle the phone in landscape rather than portrait mode seems a bit harsh, but at least I can now program all the devices in 1 screen.
i have given my ZL to the service centre 3 days back with sony India and they are offering me xperia Z instead of my Xperia ZL
they say it will be a REFURBISHED phone. Really Bad.the so called shatter proof glass body of xperia Z is even sad, anyway hoping to get a fully fuctional Xperia Z.
How is your Xperia Z working?
