Xperia Z3 is not water proof

I had a great experiance with my xperia Z3 for past 2 years, even it is a water proof mobile, i have never tried under water photos, in my last vacation, i spilled my phone in the pool, in the fraction of sec it stopped working. is really Xperia Z3 is water proof, i really annyoed with this. when i went to the serice center, since my warranty has expired they charged Rs.23000, but the mobile cost is droped to Rs.24000. is there any way i can make the repair cost low, i have a doubt that, after my last service for low volume, they may not seal the phone properly, this may be the cauese of immediate repair after fall in th pool. please suggst where i can ask how the water proof mobile will get dead after slipped in the pool.

I am sorry to hear about that @Andyrew. Slightly_frowning_Face

I can only answer for the market which I am situated in, which is the Nordics, but if a device passes the pressure test performed by the service center here, then it is waterproof according to our specifications. The test is used to expose the device to the IP conditions which we have specified the device for, and if it passes this test then that means that if the device has all of its caps correctly sealed, then it is proof according to our specifications which is IP65 and IP68 for Xperia Z3.

If your device was water damaged while the device is proof according to our specifications, then that could mean that during the point of ingress the device was exposed to conditions which we have not specified it for. As an example, it could be brought to a water depth beyond 1,5M, or maybe a cap was not properly sealed during the liquid exposure. This is just pure speculation and I can't know what conditions your device has been exposed to, or what the reason of water damage is, but this explains how such a test is conducted in the market I operate in and what the results may mean. This may be different from how your market routines look like. Again, please note that I do not mean that this is what has happened to your device, these are just examples of how a device could be damaged by liquid while still being proof according to our specifications.

I recommend that you get in touch with your Local support for further information, as service routines wary on a market to market basis and I do not know if the same applies to your local market as I explained above.

So, pretty much the same mumbo jumbo I got from the service centre.

The ports were all closed, the phone was NOT immersed in water.  It was just wet from rain fall and not directly as it was in my jacket pocket.  My clothes were wet through and the phone was had some water on it and I dried it with paper towel.  The phone still worked after this for several hours.

As far as the ports are concerned, it is not a case of not closing it properly after charging, I never open the ports for any reason as I have a charge dock that I always use.

So, regardless of what you say and what the service centre guys say about the tests and what they show, this phone let water in with all ports closed.  There is no damage to the phone, it looks brand new.

Coupled with this, I received an email telling me that the phone would soon be repaired and apologising for the delay.  What is that all about.  Send someone an email to tell them their phone repair is soon to be completed and then send them an unrepaired phone.

I can only draw the conclusion that, because the phone cannot be repaired (apparently) Sont do not want to replace it and are simply trying to avoid doing so.

I also find it interesting that when I challenged the customer care guy, at length, about this a new reason for not honouring the warranty was because the phone was not a UK phone.  This didn't get a mention before, how odd.  So, a Sony phone, built by Sony somewhere on this planet, shipped half way around the world, only has warranty in the country it is originally imported to.

Not sure if this is even legal.

I'm afraid that I can't assist with your specific case as I'm not informed regarding since it concerns a different Market, my answer was more general as to what the routines look like in Sweden. I'm sorry but I can only refer you to your local support team if you want to discuss your case or get more answers regarding questions you may have concerning the case. Slightly_frowning_Face
