I had a great experiance with my xperia Z3 for past 2 years, even it is a water proof mobile, i have never tried under water photos, in my last vacation, i spilled my phone in the pool, in the fraction of sec it stopped working. is really Xperia Z3 is water proof, i really annyoed with this. when i went to the serice center, since my warranty has expired they charged Rs.23000, but the mobile cost is droped to Rs.24000. is there any way i can make the repair cost low, i have a doubt that, after my last service for low volume, they may not seal the phone properly, this may be the cauese of immediate repair after fall in th pool. please suggst where i can ask how the water proof mobile will get dead after slipped in the pool.
Did you get any replacemant?:smileyconfused:
Hi @Jana1830, I am sorry to hear about that.
Do I understand you correctly in that you got a quotation after sending in your device to an authorized service center? Was the quotation for a new device, or for a repair? To my knowledge, a water damaged device is very rarely repaired but is rather replaced, which may explain the higher price. I'm afraid that authorized service center have set prices, at least in the region I am situated in (the Nordics), so getting a lower price than presented in the quotation may not be possible I'm afraid.
Have you had a word with your Local support team to see if they can assist you further? They will be better informed regarding what the service routines are like in your local market and will be able to assist you further. In addition, if an authorized service center repairs your device then it will be fully functional and water resistant according to our specifications after the repair.
I dont think they going to give a replacement , its only for repair. i know all mobile company will give there support till their warranty, sony is not expectional, If phone should not be expose to chlorinated water or sea water. then name it has freh water proof, not just water proof. all pool will be chlorinated , we can afford buying a 24k phone but not buying a 23Lakhs fresh water pool.:smileyangry:
@Jana1830 That could be the case, as I mentioned I can't really answer for all markets, just the one I'm situated in.
Did you have the opportunity to get in touch with your local support team to see if they had any further input in the matter?
I bought a Z3 and recently I got caught in a very heavy down pour, I was soaked to the skin. My phone, in its case, was in my jacket pocket. When I got home I found my phone was wet so I removed it from its case, dried it and all was well. All ports were firmly shut and the phone was working fine. I never actually open the ports because I have the charge dock and I always use that.
The following morning the phone was off. Assuming the battery had run out of charge I put it on the dock and left it there for a few hours. Later I checked and the charge light was on but the phone hadn't charged and would not switch on. I tried the original charger and still nothing.
The phone is under 2 years old so I called Sony and they told me to send it in. I didn't hear anything for about a week and then I received an email apologising for the delay but that the repair would be completed soon and it would be on its way back to me. Happy days.
2 days later the phone arrived but it was not repaired. There was no mention that the phone was not repaired or explanation why, I only knew it wasn't repaired because the phone wouldn't switch on.
I contacted Sony and was told they would look into it. Today, sick of waiting, I contacted Sony to see what was happening. This is what I was told:
The phone is damaged beyond repair by water damage but as all the waterproofing is intact and working, the water ingress is not because of a manufacturing fault. Secondly, because I am in the UK and the phone was from another country (I purchased it through Amazon) the warranty was not valid anyway.
I asked, if the waterproofing is intact and working, how come the phone is damaged beyond repair by water ingress. All I got was a repeat of the above.
So, in conclusion, the Sony Xperia Z3 is NOT waterproof and the warranty is only valid in whatever country the phone was originally imported to.
I'm disgusted in the way this matter has been handled by Sony and there is nowhere else for me to go. I guess I just have to throw the phone in the bin and buy a new phone, just not a Sony!
