I just purchased the xperia z3 compact and am having issues connecting to wifi. It iinitally connects but then it says 'Authentication problem'. The password is correct and I don't have this problem with any other device. I need a solution that doesn't involve having to access the router. Does anybody know how to fix this?
Thanks.

Do you have access to a PC or a Mac? I would recommend that you try to repair the software in your phone using PC Companion or Bridge for Mac but please note that this will reset your phone and delete your data. When you then start the phone and set it up again, make sure to disable the option for backup & restore with Google when you add your account as it contains WiFi settings and to avoid any issue being restored.
If the issue should remain i recommend that you contact a service location or local support team for assistance with having your phone checked.
Hi KMS98,

I suggest that you first go through the following to see if this helps at all.

Hi Jake, thanks for your reply.
A lot of the suggestions were to do with the router, which unfortunately i am unable to access as it is in my roomates room and she is on holiday and has locked her door. But all my other wifi deices are currently working wtith that router, including my boyfriends xperia z1 and I know that it is WiFi certified.
Poor signal? It actully is saying the signal is excellent, it just can't authenticate.
Connection drops? Yes, keep Wi-Fi on during sleep always is selected.
Can you please suggest anything else to try as I know the router works with wifi and I have the correct password. Resetting or changing the chanel isn't an option right now. And it is never an option anywhere else I use wifi – work, clients workplaces, cafes, library etc. Sorry, but I need a smartphone that can connect to any working wifi network with the correct password without having to touch the router, and I've never had trouble with any other device.
Thanks.
For authentication problem, there's really not much you can try on the phone but to make sure that you are entering the correct password.
Do you know if your room mate is using MAC-filter on her router? If so, you will not be able to connect even with the correct password as your phones MAC-address needs to be allowed on the router.
Do you have a Google account in your phone and if so, have you used that Google account in another phone before you got your Z3 Compact?
No, there is no MAC-filter on the router.
I do have a google account and yes, I was using it on my previous phone which was an iphone 4.
But you haven't used it in another Android device? You can check that under "Android" on https://www.google.com/settings/dashboard
Have you tried to forget the network by tapping and holding it under Settings -> WiFi and then tried to connect again?
No this is my first time using Android. I have removed my google accounts and anything google related from my old phone.
I have tried to forget and reconnect quite a few times now, and of course restarted the phone.
Here are some screenshots. You can see the strength is excellent, then when I connect at first it says 'Saved, secured with WPA2' but then after that it says 'Authentication failed'.
The VGV75..... network is my landlords which i have the pasword to, and that isn't working either. I'm not so worried about that because the signal has always been a bit weak, but other devices could at least connect to it.

Thankyou, it seems to be working now.
I'm glad to hear that
