Hi,
On my current phone a xperia z I like to stream content to my w905 bravia TV.
This works well and should work better with a z3 compact because that phone is MHL 3.0.
Recently though, I found out that the screen of the z3 compact is only 720p.
Will this phone be able to stream 1080p through MHL?
Im also a bit worried that the MHL on a compact size phone may work less, specially when streaming.
Before I buy the Z3 compact I have to know how it behaves in MHL mode.
Any insights on this matter would be greatly appriciated.
regards,
Gert-Jan Lint

Why couldnt you use MHL 3.0? Xperia Z compact is MHL 3.0.
I don't have any TV or MHL-adapter with MHL 3.0 to test with at my location i'm afraid.
But i doubt the battery will drain with MHL 3.0.
What kind of cable or adapter did you use?
I have the official sony cable, ordered from the sony site. To my knowledge this cable works a lot better then adapters, specialy charging.
I used our IM750 with an EP880 connected to it.
Im not sure if your adapter is MHL 3.0 compatible, its not mentioned in the specifications and this adapter is pretty old.
My cable is MHL 3.0

Cant you get this cable and test it ? You work at sony right?
It's not MHL 3.0. That's why i wrote that i'm not able to test it with MHL 3.0.
The cable you link to is not a Sony Mobile product so i'm afraid i don't have one as i only work with Sony Mobile products. But to test it i would also need a TV with MHL 3.0. The cable itself doesn't provide any power so i would need a TV with MHL 3.0 as well to see how fast it charges.
But i don't think you'll see any battery drain if you have a TV and cable that supports MHL 3.0 and watch a movie.
Well thanks for your time and effort.
You've answered my question, as long as it outputs 1080p Im satisfied.
I found out that my TV (kdl46w905) doesnt support MHL3.0 so I guess im gonna have to use 2.0, even if I buy a MHL3.0 compatible phone.
Thats allright though, I would prefer MHL3.0 but 2.0 is still good enough.
