Xperia Z2 Chrome "Unfortunately Chrome has Stopped"

I am having an issue with the Chrome app on my phone. When I try to access the internet, I do the following.

1-Open 'Google'

2-Type in whatever

3-Select chrome.

Everything works until I select chrome. The window suddenly closes then a pop-up appears stating "Unfortunately Chrome has stopped."

I have done some googling on the subject, and have completed the following in an attempt to fix it.

1- turned phone off and on again

2-Gone to 'Apps' selected 'Chrome'. Forced stop, then cleared data and cache

3 - uninstalled chrome, forcing it to factory default. Went to play store and downloaded updates.

4- restarted phone a few more times

End result: No change. I still get the error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I backed my phone up using PC Companion, but I don't reall see any option to use it for repairs. How do I do this?

You should see an option to re-install the current update

You may need to perform a software repair using PC Companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.

Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).

Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

Alright...so this wouldn't work either. Got to the step where I hold the on button and the volume button at the same time. It seemed  to do something and windows appeared on my comptuer. Then it announced the internet access was inadequate and it could not proceed. My internet is fine.

Disable your firewall and antivirus (on your PC)

So, I successfully used PCC to 'fix' my phone...

...however I now can't get my backup back onto my phone. It goes through the process of loading it, but just before it is finished it pops up saying....

"Restore Error

An error occured during the restore operation and your content on phone/tablet may be corrupt.

The backup file on your computer is unharmed and with that you can repeat the restore operation to correct any errors on your phone/tablet

We recommend you to restart your phonetablet and try restoring your data again."

For the record, this is the second time I got this error as I DID restart the phone and try again (only to get the same error).

Three times the charm apparently. Lost a few apps, but overall it works now. Thanks!
