Xperia Z1 screen flickers when phone heats up

Hi guys! I know several threads were already opened with this topic, but I still didn't find any solution so opened up this one.

This just started two days ago. My Z1's display flickers when the phone gets warm. Usually when the temp is around 40 deg Celsius. What's funny is it flickers firstonly on photos with green background, usually with leaves and plants. Then it gets worse. It's obvious in the Albums app, though it also occur on Chrome. At times it also happens in the home screen and on the app tray. My phone's display was changed three weeks ago because it's cracked, so I have a strong belief that this is a hardware fault. However, the service guy refused to acknowledge that and tells me it's the IC. My phone was working perfectly in the last 7 months until they did the display replacement. I already spent a good amount of money for the display replacement and now they want me to shed money again for another repair. Computing the costs, I could have bought a new phone! Is there any other way to prevent the flickers?

Hi xiaokhat, welcome to the community!

Something you could try is running a software repair on the handset to see if that helps, it is likely to.

To do this you just need to download PC Companion.

Note: a software repair will delete all user data, to back up your phone:

1. Go to Support to install PC Companion on a Windows computer.
2. When installed, start PC Companion on the computer.
3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
4. Click Start under Backup & Restore.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
(Exactly what contents will be backed up may differ depending on phone model.
You can view detailed information about this as you follow the steps in the Backup & Restore wizard).

Running the software repair:
1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
2. Phone Software Update.
3. Start.
4. Repair Phone
5. Continue
6. Accept data removal
7. Next
8. Wait for prepare
9. Select Phone
10. Follow the connection steps

I hope this helps! If it doesn't then I advise contacting Sony Xperia Customer Care in your region, you can click the link in my signature for contact details. Keep us updated Slightly_smiling_Face

Thanks! I tried the steps you suggested and it fixed the overheat issue. Dialling *#*#4636#*#* is a secret menu to monitor battery temperature. When the display flicker started, my battery temp was around 45℃. After the PCC repair, it's around 37℃ however the display still flickers. I talked to the manager and showed him how the display flickers. So far, he told me they will check first if it was really a fault on the display so they can replace it without cost. Hopefully I could get the good news tomorrow! Slightly_smiling_Face
